PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Crowley Osbourne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Osbourne has chosen Mr Crowley as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Osbourne has a takedown stuffed.
Osbourne throws a big shot that misses.
The fighters circling - Osbourne throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A slapping leg kick lands for Penn.
Penn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Osbourne is fending him off so far but Penn persists. Nope, Osbourne circles away and we're back to standing.

Penn tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

A jab from Osbourne misses.
Penn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Osbourne counters with a nice double leg into side control. Penn won't be happy with that.

Penn wants to control but Osbourne postures up.
Osbourne wants to control but Penn is keeping him busy.

Osbourne controls the position from side control.
Penn managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Osbourne.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The strikes coming from Osbourne are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Penn misses with a takedown
and Osbourne counters with a two punch combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Osbourne misses with a straight right.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Osbourne shows good takedown defense.
Penn shoots in for a double leg but Osbourne sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Donk. Osbourne catches Penn right on the button with a cross.
Crowley Osbourne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn ducks under a wild hook from Osbourne.
Osbourne throws a lazy right hand but Penn sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Osbourne gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Penn counters with a head kick. That will keep Osbourne thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Nice defenses there by Penn.
Penn misses with a takedown
and Osbourne cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Penn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Osbourne is trying to control Penn's posture but Penn avoids it.
Osbourne is looking to reverse the position.
Penn trying to control the action but Osbourne is working from the bottom.
Osbourne struggling a bit here.
Osbourne is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Penn is staying active.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Penn remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Osbourne is looking to regain half guard here but Penn keeps moving and retains side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Penn lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Penn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Penn lands in his opponent's guard.
Osbourne working a defensive guard but Penn manages to pass into side control anyway.
Osbourne tries to buck Penn off but Penn is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Crowley Osbourne dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Osbourne throws a hook but Penn avoids it easily.
Penn throws a body kick that misses.
A swing and a miss from Osbourne.
Osbourne takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Penn throws a nice head kick!
Osbourne misses with a takedown attempt
and Penn counters with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penn avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Penn lands with a kick to the temple. Osbourne shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Osbourne is breathing heavily.

Osbourne is trying to get back to half guard.
Penn trying to control the action but Osbourne is working from the bottom.
Penn controls the position.

Penn has hold of Osbourne's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Osbourne seems comfortable defending it but Penn has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Osbourne is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Osbourne is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Penn couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). BJ Penn!
