PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Erik Kramer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franky Yip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erik Kramer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Franky Yip!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yip looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Yip drops back looking for a leg! Kramer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kramer manages to kick Yip off! Yip jumps back into Kramer's guard.
Kramer controls Yip momentarily but Yip frees himself.
Yip controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Kramer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yip defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yip working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kramer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Yip can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Yip is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Yip keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kramer's head.
Kramer seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kramer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Yip trying to control but Kramer is working from the bottom.

Yip is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Yip controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Yip takes one to the side of the head.
Kramer moves forwards but Yip connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Yip throws a right hand that Kramer ducks under and follows up with a left that Kramer also avoids with ease.
Kramer shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Yip lands a slapping body shot.
Yip with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Yip jabs Kramer right on the nose. Kramer blinks but takes it well.
Yip lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kramer at a distance.
Kramer misses with the combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Yip lands a jab to the head.
Yip throws a lazy uppercut
and Kramer counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Yip closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kramer's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yip working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kramer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Yip controls the pace.
Yip with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yip tries to free his leg and advance position but Kramer is retaining full guard.
Yip postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Franky Yip dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Kramer lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Franky Yip seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A lazy left from Kramer finds it's target.
Yip throws a hook to the side of Kramer's head but Kramer sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Kramer swings for the body but Yip moves out of range.
A little jabbing left from Yip on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Franky Yip seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looked like Kramer wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Yip has his takedown stuffed
and Kramer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kramer connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Yip's hands.
Kramer wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Kramer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Yip looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Yip tries to counter with a clinch but Kramer shakes him off and moves away.
Yip takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Kramer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Yip walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kramer throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Kramer swings for the body but Yip moves out of range.
Kramer misses with a body shot.
Yip lands a two punch combo.

Kramer is looking to wear down Yip with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Yip keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Kramer takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Kramer with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Kramer moves out of range of the strikes.

Yip on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Yip is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kramer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kramer is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Kramer connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kramer throws a quick inside leg kick.
Yip throws an overhand right that lands on Kramer's shoulder, as Kramer tries to avoid the shot.

Yip misses with a body shot.
Yip connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kramer momentarily.
Kramer takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Nice uppercut lands for Kramer. That snapped Yip's head back.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kramer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Kramer is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Yip.
Kramer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Yip has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Kramer.
Kramer lands a jab to Yip's midsection.
Kramer lands with a thumping leg kick.
Yip lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Yip lands with a straight right. Kramer didn't see that one coming.
Yip moves into range and connects with a jab.
Yip takes a swing at Kramer's ribcage but misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kramer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Yip circles away quickly and effectively.
Kramer throws a hook to the side of Yip's head but Yip sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Yip wants to counter the offense by Kramer and move into the clinch position.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yip. Kramer does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Erik Kramer dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Kramer misses with a hook.
Yip tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kramer defends well and Yip ends up having to push Kramer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Yip lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kramer circles away quickly and effectively.
Kramer was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Yip takes one to the side of the head.

Yip looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kramer!
Kramer is trying to control Yip's posture but Yip avoids it.
Kramer is trying to get back to half guard.
Yip has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Yip is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kramer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Kramer tries to bench press Yip off him but Yip keeps the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kramer is not content to let Yip control the position.
Kramer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Kramer is trying to escape the position but Yip is controlling the position.

Yip tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Yip advances to mount.
Kramer is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Yip content just to control the position here.

Yip tries to control but Kramer wriggling away.
Kramer sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Yip is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kramer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Yip.
Yip throwing shots but Kramer is blocking nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Franky Yip.
I think Yip has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
