PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jacques Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pony Tail (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tail has chosen Edoardo Vianello - Il Capello as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Pony Tail will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jacques Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pony Tail!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Ben Watson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tail gets a clinch.

Stone manages to pull guard.
Tail throws a big right hand that misses.
Tail trying to control the position from guard on top but Stone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stone has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tail can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Tail working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tail accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tail postures up in Stone's guard and throws a big left but Stone blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tail won't allow Stone to sweep him here.

Tail got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stone has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tail has managed to get both his arms back between Stone's legs - danger averted.
Stone really is a fat lump.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tail accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tail really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stone. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tail postures up in Stone's guard and throws a big left but Stone blocks it.
Tail content to stall in guard here.
Tail must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tail throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stone works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Tail with a flurry of punches that miss.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tail controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Tail closes the distance and pushes Stone back into the cage.

Tail's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tail slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Tail is looking to slow Stone down with leg kicks.
Tail misses with a few strikes there.
Tail fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Tail. Stone shrugs it off though.
Stone lands a nice shot to the body.
Stone leaves Tail with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tail fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stone manages to avoid it.

Tail throws a body kick that misses.
Tail shoots for a takedown but Stone saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tail is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Tail misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stone.

Tail lands a leg kick that knocks Stone off balance momentarily.

Stone closes the distance and clinches.

Stone breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tail moves in looking to clinch but Stone pushes him off.
Stone tries to counter with a takedown but Tail is quick to defend against it.

Tail forces Stone back against the cage and clinches.
Tail content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Stone throws an elbow but it misses.
Stone goes for a takedown attempt but Tail pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tail lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Tail wants to clinch.
Stone lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Tail moves into the clinch successfully.
Stone throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Tail avoiding damage as Stone throws knees to the body.
Tail wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Stone has him pressed against the cage.
Tail blocks an elbow strike from Stone.
Tail lands a nice elbow.
Stone lands an elbow inside.
Tail throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stone is trying to drag Tail to the mat but Tail just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Tail stalling in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pony Tail dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Tail closes the distance and clinches.
Stone tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tail smiles and moves away.
Tail moves in looking to clinch but Stone pushes him off.
Tail misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nice sprawl there from Tail as Stone shoots in.
Pony Tail seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Tail instigates a clinch.

Tail escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Stone gets tackled into the cage by Tail. Tail maintains the clinch.
Stone comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Tail.

Tail ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Pony Tail seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tail lands a nice looking body shot.
Pony Tail is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tail connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Stone gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Stone throws an elbow that misses.
Stone blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Tail with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Tail is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Stone to keep the fight standing.

Tail dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Stone is pressed up against the cage. Tail has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Stone down to the mat. Stone avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Tail throws a head kick that half lands.
Tail fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jacques Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pony Tail.

Tail throws a body shot but no joy.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tail tries to close the distance and clinch but Stone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stone fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Stone avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Stone looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Stone slips under a jab from Tail.
Stone is looking to counter the offense by Tail and move into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tail looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Tail moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Stone slaps away a takedown attempt from Tail, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Stone uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tail.
Stone wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Stone looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Tail wants to get back to his feet but Stone drags him back down.
Tail wants to control but Stone postures up.
Tail has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tail is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Stone is staying active.

Tail is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Stone is controlling him well.
Tail tries to bench press Stone off him but Stone keeps the position.

Tail is trying to get back to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tail can do anything to dispel that myth.
You can see the frustration on Tail's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Stone is trying to get an arm triangle but Tail is defending well.
Tail is looking to reverse the position.

Stone is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tail knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Stone tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pony Tail showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Stone has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Tail clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Stone working for a choke but Tail is defending well.
Stone is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Tail. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Tail looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
I really don't envy Tail right now.

Tail is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Stone struggling to keep hold of the position.
Tail tries to break free.

Tail won't enjoy being in this position. Stone looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Tail is tapping - it's over boys! Stone picks up the submission victory!
