The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aoki closes the distance and clinches.

Honda wants to get back to striking at distance but Aoki won't allow it.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yoko Honda dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Honda dives in and grabs Aoki's left leg, looking for a takedown. Aoki pushes down on Honda's head and hops out.
Honda will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Honda counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Honda passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Aoki!

Aoki felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
