Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Barker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Benson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Karl Benson!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Benson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Barker tries to get to full guard but Benson has control of the leg.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Nice strikes from Benson there.
Benson prevents Barker from improving his position.
Well, if Benson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barker is looking for a sweep. Benson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Benson is taking a breather. Barker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Barker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Let's hope that Benson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Barker has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Benson escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Benson!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Barker takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Barker tries to control but Benson manages to take his back.

Benson biding his time, controlling Barker.
Barker is trying to break free.

Benson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Benson controls the action.
I really don't envy Barker right now.

Benson looking for the RNC.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Barker is trapped and Benson is scoring with shots to the head and body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Benson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Benson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Barker did well to prevent Benson getting side control.

Barker makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Benson rushes Barker and presses him up against the cage.
Benson throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Barkers head.

Benson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Benson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Barker stopping the sweep attempt from Benson.
Benson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Benson seems keen to control Barker's posture.

Benson keeping moving, preventing Barker from controlling successfully.
Barker is looking to work some ground and pound but Benson has wrist control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Barker has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Benson has control of Barker's left arm, preventing Barker from doing any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Benson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Benson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Benson manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Barker looking to stall.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Benson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Benson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Benson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Benson controlling Barker's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Benson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Barker postures up in Benson's guard and throws a big left but Benson blocks it.
Benson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Barker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Benson on the ground.
Benson pulls Barker in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Benson moves out of range as Barker throws a body kick.
Barker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Benson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Barker somewhat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Benson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Barker to the mat! Barker manages to get full guard.
Barker wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Benson manages to pass to side control.
Karl Benson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Benson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Benson maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Barker could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Benson has cracked it and Barker is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Benson!
