PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buddy Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin comes to the cage accompanied by Got Money by Lil Wayne. Johnson has chosen Boom - Hed PE as his entrance music. Ryan Martin had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 156.8lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Buddy Johnson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Gregory Folan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin stuffs the takedown.
Martin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Johnson throws out the jab.

Johnson tries to clinch but Martin moves out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Johnson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A left and a right from Martin both land. Nice combination.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt.

Martin drives through with a takedown into guard.
Johnson is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Martin dives into side control.

Martin clinches up against the cage.

Martin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Johnson is trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Martin is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Martin instigates a clinch.
Johnson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
The is referee keeping an eye on Martin - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Martin scores with a hook to the body.
Martin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Johnson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Johnson wants to get back to striking at distance but Martin won't allow it.
Martin keeps control of Johnson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Martin has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Johnson is trying to keep an underhook but Martin manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Martin seems content to control.

Johnson is kicking away at Martin from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Martin grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a hell hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Johnson trying to push Martin off... Johnson taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.
