Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez has chosen Awake and Alive - Skillet as his entrance music. The key to victory for David Parker has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Parker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Velasquez takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Velasquez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Parker tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Velasquez is in Parker's guard.

Velasquez gets to his feet. Parker looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Parker shoots in and bounces Velasquez off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.

Velasquez is scooting his butt against the ropes and has managed to get back to his feet. Parker presses him back against the ropes, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Velasquez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Parker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

David Parker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Velasquez.

Velasquez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Parker regains guard immediately.

Parker has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Velasquez off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Parker wants to get up but he can't break Velasquez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Parker gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Velasquez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Parker prevents it.
Parker gets underhooks to prevent Velasquez's takedown attempt.

Parker turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Velasquez wants to get back to his feet but Parker is dominant here and he's now got Velasquez's back!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Velasquez wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.
Parker wants to control the position but Velasquez frees himself and scrambles - Parker manages to regain control in side control.
Parker tries to stand but Velasquez is controlling his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mauricio Velasquez will probably get the nod.

Velasquez shoots in for a double leg but Parker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Parker rushes Velasquez and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Parker wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Velasquez has him pressed against the ropes.
Parker is trying to push Velasquez away but Velasquez has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.

Velasquez is trying to trip Parker. He has hold of a leg but Parker is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Velasquez persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Parker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Velasquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Velasquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Parker pushes Velasquez off but Velasquez dives into side control.

Velasquez has hold of Parker's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Parker tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Velasquez cranks the arm and Parker screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Parker, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
