PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Root Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drederick Byson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Byson's choice of entrance music: Redman - Time 4 Sum Aksion. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Root Paul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Drederick Byson!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byson's corner calls for a 1-2. Byson obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Byson lands a really nice looking cross but Paul seems unphased.


It looks like Root Paul has been cut.
Paul uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Byson.
Paul steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Byson.
Paul appears to be looking for a big counter.
Paul avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Paul takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Byson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Byson lands a jab to the nose.
Paul uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Byson.
Byson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Paul moves into the clinch successfully.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Drederick Byson has been cut.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Byson has eaten all the pies!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paul's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Byson is still in real trouble! Can Paul finish him?
Byson wants to stand and escape but Paul is having none of it.
Byson seems to have recovered his senses.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Paul's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Paul's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Paul frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Paul has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Paul seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Byson for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You get the feeling that Byson really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Paul is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Byson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Paul takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Byson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Paul throws a right and a left that both miss.
Root Paul is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Paul works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Paul is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Drederick Byson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Paul counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Byson!
Paul lands a big elbow - Byson is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Paul!
