PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Kaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyson Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Max Kaz!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain with a lazy takedown attempt
letting Kaz counter with a right hand.
Pain takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Pain shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kaz pinned against the cage. Kaz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kaz scores with a leg kick.
Pain shoots in for a takedown but Kaz shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyson Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good work by Pain as he checks the leg kick.
Tyson Pain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pain shoots for a takedown but Kaz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Pain closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kaz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pain wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pain trying to control the action but Kaz is working from the bottom.
Pain in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Pain tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pain has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Pain trying to control the action but Kaz is working from the bottom.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Kaz is not content to let Pain control the position.
Kaz struggling a bit here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kaz tries to buck Pain off but Pain is having none of it.

Pain tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pain has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kaz gets back to half guard.

Pain wants to work for an arm triangle but Kaz is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pain throwing shots but Kaz is blocking nicely.

Pain is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kaz is just riding it out for now. Pain eventually gives up the hold.
Pain is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Kaz reverses the position - he's now on top in Pain's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kaz engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Pain is trying to keep Kaz in close.

Kaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pain has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kaz has managed to get both his arms back between Pain's legs - danger averted.
Kaz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Pain has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kaz is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pain.
Kaz throws a strike aimed at the side of Pain's head but Pain avoids it well.
Kaz scores with punches from side control.
Pain tries to buck Kaz off but Kaz is having none of it.
Pain manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kaz's best efforts.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kaz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Kaz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Kaz dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pain goes for a double leg but Kaz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kaz continues to drive forward.

and Kaz counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kaz lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Pain shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kaz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Pain shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kaz as he jumps to the side.
Kaz was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kaz, right into the meat.
Pain dives in for a single leg takedown but Kaz sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Pain tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kaz defends well and Pain ends up having to push Kaz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Pain on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kaz. Kaz obviously looking to wear him down.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Kaz misses with a body kick.
Donk. Kaz catches Pain right on the button with a cross.
Nice jab there from Kaz.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kaz cracks a nice hook into Pain's ribs.
Pain tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kaz defends well and Pain ends up having to push Kaz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Pain changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaz tries to avoid it but Pain manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaz to the ground. Kaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kaz steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kaz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pain appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Pain takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Kaz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kaz wants it to stay on the feet.
Kaz works the jab nicely.
Pain changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaz tries to avoid it but Pain manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaz to the ground. Kaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kaz dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Pain. That did some damage!
Pain has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kaz.
Pain has his takedown stuffed
and Kaz counters with a good, hard body kick but Pain shrugs it off.
Pain shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kaz but Kaz pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pain takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Kaz scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Kaz turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Kaz lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Pain closes the distance and clinches up with Kaz, looking for a takedown. Pain pushes Kaz against the cage but Kaz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Kaz slaps away a takedown attempt from Pain, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kaz moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kaz scores with a kick to the midsection.
Pain takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Pain dives in for a single leg takedown but Kaz sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Pain is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Kaz moves into the clinch.
Kaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kaz lands with a right to the head.
Kaz prevents the takedown attempt.
Pain takes a knee to the side of the body.
A body shot lands from Kaz.
Kaz lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Kaz lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Kaz scores a nice knee to the body.
Kaz lands an elbow that stopped Pain in his tracks for a moment.
Nice body punch from Kaz.
Kaz utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Kaz makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Kaz unloads a knee to the mid-section. Pain lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Max Kaz seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Pain's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Pain changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kaz fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Kaz digs a good body shot into Pain's ribs.
Kaz lands a brutal head kick. Pain looks out on his feet and Kaz throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). Max Kaz!
In his post fight interview, Max Kaz started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
