Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Romeo Long (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DJ Shaw has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Romeo Long!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, DJ Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Shaw blocks the body kick.
Shaw with the counter takedown but Long avoids it easily.

Long looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Long is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shaw wants to control but Long is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Long connects with a nice short shot to Shaw's temple.

Long seems to be working for a kimura but Shaw defends the submission attempt.
Shaw is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shaw wants to get back to full guard.
Long not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Shaw has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Long is working away from the top position though.

Long seems to be looking for submissions.
Long sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shaw defending well though.

Long is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Long seems to be looking for submissions.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Long missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Long gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Shaw pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Long is stalling here.
Shaw lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Romeo Long has been cut.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Long wants to take the fight to the mat but Shaw manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Long has clasped his hands together around Shaw's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Shaw throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A little feinted left hand from Long on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Long throws a push kick but Shaw slaps the foot to one side.
Shaw tries to bum rush Long with a series of wild strikes but Long uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A head kick misses from Shaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shaw throws a sloppy head kick and Long moves out of range easily.
Shaw is breathing heavily.

Long drives through with a takedown into guard.
Shaw is looking to stand back up but Long counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Shaw.

Long not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Long maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Shaw could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Long has cracked it and Shaw is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Long!
