PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frederic Haley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Ennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ennis has chosen Cotton Eye Joe as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Frederic Haley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Aaron Ennis!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ennis tries to avoid it but Haley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ennis to the ground. Ennis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Ennis has eaten all the pies!
Ennis looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Haley avoids the head kick by Ennis.
Haley showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Ennis.
Ennis throws a combination that misses
and Haley counters with a two punch combo.
Ennis throws a sloppy head kick and Haley moves out of range easily.

Ennis tries to keep at a distance but Haley has taken the fight into the clinch.
Ennis prevents the takedown attempt.
Haley is working for takedown but Ennis is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frederic Haley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ennis is looking to stand up but Haley won't let him.

Haley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Haley stalling.

Haley is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ennis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Haley.
Haley stalling away here and it's allowed Ennis to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Ennis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Haley controls the pace.

Haley loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Haley stands and steps away. Ennis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Ennis throws a series of punches but Haley avoids them all with ease.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fight stays on the outside here - Haley looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ennis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haley fails to land the takedown.
Haley tries a head kick but it misses.
Ennis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Haley.
Aaron Ennis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Haley avoids a kick to the body.
Haley blocks a head kick by Ennis.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Haley shoots in for a takedown but Ennis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Haley tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ennis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ennis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ennis wants it to stay on the feet.
Aaron Ennis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ennis stalks Haley and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Haley's face. Haley staggers backwards, shaken.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Aaron Ennis will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Haley looking for a takedown.
Still in the clinch, Ennis scores with a nice short uppercut.
Ennis is looking to break free of the clinch but Haley has double underhooks.
Ennis is trying to push Haley away but Haley has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Haley is trying to drag Ennis to the mat but Ennis just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Haley tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Ennis is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Haley is defending well for now.
Haley tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ennis just stands there and leans against the cage.
Haley is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Ennis lands a shot to the body.

Ennis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ennis finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Ennis misses with the combination.
Ennis misses with a few strikes there.
Ennis throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Haley holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Haley tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Haley has Ennis pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ennis manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Haley jumps guard but Ennis turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Haley tries to pull guard but Ennis forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Ennis lands an elbow inside.
Ennis scores with a knee to the head.


It looks like Frederic Haley has been cut.

Ennis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Aaron Ennis seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Haley moves in looking to clinch but Ennis pushes him off.
Haley is looking to clinch.
A head kick misses from Ennis.
Haley shoots in looking for a takedown. Ennis tries to sprawl out of it but Haley keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ennis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Frederic Haley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ennis throws a nice looking combination but Haley bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ennis has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.

Haley shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Haley is trying to control. Ennis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ennis on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Haley decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Ennis tries to keep at a distance but Haley has taken the fight into the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Haley fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Aaron Ennis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Haley drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Haley decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Ennis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Haley tries to counter with a takedown but Ennis is quick to defend against it.

Haley fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ennis, pushing him back against the cage.
Haley is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ennis is defending well.

Haley jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ennis walks away with a smile on his face. Haley gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ennis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ennis leaves Haley with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ennis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Haley circles away quickly and effectively.
Haley is looking to clinch.
Haley checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Ennis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Haley forces Ennis back against the cage and clinches.
Haley tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Haley jumps guard but Ennis turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Ennis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ennis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Haley moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Ennis - that will leave a mark!
Ennis looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Haley looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ennis misses with the combination.
Haley tries for a takedown but Ennis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ennis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ennis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Haley blocks a head kick by Ennis.
Haley avoids a punch combination nicely.

Haley fails in his attempt to clinch.
Haley throws a head kick that misses.
Ennis throws a right hand that Haley ducks under and follows up with a left that Haley also avoids with ease.

Haley moves into the clinch.
Ennis landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Haley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ennis scores with a shoulder strike.
Haley fails to pull guard.
Haley tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ennis just stands there and leans against the cage.
Haley tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ennis smiles and moves away.
Frederic Haley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Aaron Ennis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Aaron Ennis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ennis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
