PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Simon Hilkemoeller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Rhino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hilkemoeller comes to the cage accompanied by The Fugees - Ready or not. Simon Hilkemoeller is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Simon Hilkemoeller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, The Rhino!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rhino gets a double leg takedown into Hilkemoeller's guard.
Hilkemoeller is wriggling around but Rhino manages to pass to half guard.

Rhino content to control rather than advance.
Hilkemoeller tries to kick Rhino off but Rhino keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Hilkemoeller definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rhino decides to return to a standing position.
Hilkemoeller slaps away a takedown attempt from Rhino, before circling back to the center of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rhino lands a big head kick that sends Hilkemoeller tumbling to the mat! Rhino takes a step backwards and waves Hilkemoeller back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Hilkemoeller is rocked!


It looks like Simon Hilkemoeller has been cut.

Hilkemoeller slaps away a takedown attempt from Rhino, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hilkemoeller throwing a counter right hand but Rhino manages to avoid it.
Rhino with a lazy takedown attempt
and Hilkemoeller counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Simon Hilkemoeller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of The Rhino.
Rhino shoots in looking for a takedown but Hilkemoeller manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rhino's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A little feinted left hand from Hilkemoeller on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Rhino shoots in but no luck this time.
The Rhino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rhino with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Rhino lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Rhino rushes Hilkemoeller and presses him up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Hilkemoeller's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Rhino breaks the clinch.
Rhino dives in for a single leg takedown but Hilkemoeller sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Rhino. Hilkemoeller shrugs it off though.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rhino.
Rhino shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hilkemoeller pinned against the cage. Hilkemoeller gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hilkemoeller appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Rhino plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hilkemoeller throws a hook to the side of Rhino's head but Rhino sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Rhino shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hilkemoeller as he avoids it easily.
Hilkemoeller tried to counter with a leg kick but Rhino avoided it.
Hilkemoeller is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rhino.


Simon Hilkemoeller's cut is getting worse.

Rhino has managed to clinch.
Rhino goes for a takedown attempt but Hilkemoeller pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rhino shoots in and drives through. Hilkemoeller sprawls well.

Rhino fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hilkemoeller, pushing him back against the cage.
Hilkemoeller wants to break free but Rhino has control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hilkemoeller is trying to break free.
Hilkemoeller is trying to push Rhino away but Rhino has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Rhino has Hilkemoeller pressed against the cage, preventing Hilkemoeller from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Rhino manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Hilkemoeller is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Hilkemoeller has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Rhino breaks from the clinch.

Rhino closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hilkemoeller is trying to break the clinch but Rhino is controlling him.
Rhino tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hilkemoeller avoids it.
Hilkemoeller is trying to force a seperation but Rhino has the dominant position.
Hilkemoeller wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hilkemoeller is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Rhino jumps guard and drags Hilkemoeller to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Rhino is pulling down on Hilkemoeller's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The Rhino dominated that round.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Rhino clinches with his opponent.
Rhino keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hilkemoeller's efforts to push away.
Hilkemoeller has had enough of the clinch but Rhino keeps him there for the moment.
Hilkemoeller tries to break the clinch but Rhino is controlling the position.
Rhino keeps control of Hilkemoeller as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Rhino pulls guard.
Hilkemoeller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rhino swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rhino pulls Hilkemoeller in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rhino is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rhino throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Rhino controlling Hilkemoeller's posture.
Hilkemoeller wants to control from the top but Rhino keeps moving.
Rhino pulls Hilkemoeller in close to his closed guard and prevents Hilkemoeller from doing any damage or advancing position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hilkemoeller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rhino swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rhino fails with a takedown attempt.
Hilkemoeller throwing a counter right hand but Rhino manages to avoid it.

Rhino gets a clinch.
Hilkemoeller is trying to push Rhino away but Rhino has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Rhino keeps control of Hilkemoeller as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Hilkemoeller's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Hilkemoeller looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Rhino tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hilkemoeller tries to break free but Rhino pushes him back against the cage.
Hilkemoeller wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Rhino changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hilkemoeller fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Hilkemoeller slaps away a takedown attempt from Rhino, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hilkemoeller appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

Rhino darts in and clinches Hilkemoeller up against the cage.

Rhino manages to break the clinch.
Rhino shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hilkemoeller as he jumps to the side.
Hilkemoeller was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
The Rhino seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Hilkemoeller throws a front kick aimed at Rhino's knee but Rhino avoids it well.
Rhino is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Rhino misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

The Rhino is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rhino lands with a kick to the ribs.

As Rhino backs away, Hilkemoeller returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rhino dives in for a single leg takedown but Hilkemoeller sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

The Rhino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Rhino just misses with a punch to the body.
Rhino has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rhino closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hilkemoeller circles away.
Hilkemoeller feinted there with a counter leg kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rhino has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hilkemoeller uses from the top position.
Hilkemoeller wants to stand but Rhino has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Hilkemoeller slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hilkemoeller has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Rhino decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hilkemoeller, up you get!

Simon Hilkemoeller has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rhino ducks under a wild hook from Hilkemoeller.
Despite the aggression on Rhino's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A left lands for Rhino.
Rhino shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hilkemoeller as he jumps to the side.

Rhino lands a left and a right that send Hilkemoeller crashing to the mat, dazed. Rhino thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Oh Hilkemoeller is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hilkemoeller takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Hilkemoeller seems to have got his legs back now.
Rhino lands a big head kick that sends Hilkemoeller to the canvas! Rhino follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). The Rhino!
