Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nidhi Negi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wang Zhi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nidhi Negi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Wang Zhi!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Negi.
Zhi looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Negi stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Negi shoots in for a takedown but Zhi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Negi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Negi decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Negi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Zhi is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Nidhi Negi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Negi shoots in but no luck this time.

We've been informed that Zhi has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Negi is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Zhi presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Zhi jumps guard and drags Negi to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Zhi is working an open guard so Negi takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Zhi slaps away a takedown attempt from Negi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Negi shoots in looking for a takedown but Zhi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Negi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Negi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zhi swivels and escapes.
Negi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Negi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zhi's waist but Zhi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Negi off to one side.

Negi kicks Zhi off and gets to his feet.
Zhi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zhi wants it to stay on the feet.
Zhi with the counter takedown but Negi avoids it easily.

Zhi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Negi sprawls well initially but Zhi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Negi tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Zhi manages to move to mount!
Negi on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Negi tries to get out of the position.
Zhi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Negi's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Zhi gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Negi dives in for a single leg takedown but Zhi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A combination from Zhi does no damage.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Negi shoots in for a takedown but Zhi shows good takedown defense.
Negi takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Negi closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Zhi's guard.
Negi wants to get up but he can't break Zhi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Negi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Negi shoots in for a double leg but Zhi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Negi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zhi did well to prevent Negi getting side control.

Zhi kicks off Negi and gets to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Zhi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Negi to the mat! Negi manages to get full guard.
Negi wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Zhi manages to pass to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Wang Zhi will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Negi shoots for a takedown but Zhi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Zhi has closed the distance and engaged Negi in a clinch.
Negi with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Zhi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Negi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zhi as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nidhi Negi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Zhi counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Negi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Zhi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Negi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Zhi moves into full guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zhi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Negi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Negi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Negi stands up from Zhi's guard - Negi perhaps looking for a knockout.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Negi enables Zhi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Negi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Negi kicks Zhi off and gets back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Negi shoots in and drives through. Zhi sprawls well.

Wang Zhi seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Zhi ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Zhi no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Negi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zhi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Negi has managed to get both his arms back between Zhi's legs - danger averted.

Zhi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Zhi lands in his opponent's guard.
Negi wants to stand up but Zhi is controlling him.

Zhi stalks Negi and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Negi's face. Negi staggers backwards, shaken.

Negi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Negi stands up and waves to Zhi to follow him.

Zhi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Zhi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Negi explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Negi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Zhi is fending him off so far but Negi persists. Nope, Zhi circles away and we're back to standing.

Wang Zhi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Negi throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Zhi blocks it with crossed arms.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nidhi Negi showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Zhi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
