PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Bell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Smakota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Bell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alexander Smakota!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Smakota swivels and escapes.
Bell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Smakota closes the distance and pushes Bell back into the cage.
Bell has Smakota pressed against the cage, preventing Smakota from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Bell is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Smakota crunches a lovely knee into Bell's ribcage.
Bell misses with a body punch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Bell as Smakota tries to tie him up.

Smakota manages to break the clinch.
David Bell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bell shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smakota is looking to escape.
Smakota wants to control but Bell is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Smakota is looking to improve his position.

The fighters are battling for position here. Smakota manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Bell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Smakota is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Smakota keeping moving, preventing Bell from controlling successfully.
Bell controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Bell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smakota on the ground.
Bell content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Bell wants to control from the top but Smakota keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bell stops Smakota from standing up.
Smakota is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Bell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Bell is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bell wants to get up but he can't break Smakota's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Smakota has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bell stands up from Smakota's guard - Bell perhaps looking for a knockout.
Bell fails in his attempt to clinch.
Smakota feints a counter leg kick.
Bell shoots in looking for a takedown but Smakota manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Bell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smakota.
Bell half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Smakota looks winded!

Bell decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bell has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smakota is looking to escape.
Bell with the ground and pound from mount.
Smakota is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Smakota's face.
Smakota is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bell breaks from Smakota's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bell raining down shots from the mount!
Bell lands a heavy elbow.


Smakota is rocked!
Bell cracks Smakota with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Smakota is still in real trouble! Can Bell finish him?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smakota takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Bell's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Bell!
