PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Raban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tiny Tim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tim has chosen Hot In Herre - Nelly as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Raban!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tiny Tim!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tim shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Raban as he jumps to the side.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Raban.

Tim shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Raban manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tim wants to control from the top but Raban keeps moving.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tim controlling from the top position.
Tim with a flurry of punches that miss.
Raban might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Raban is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Tim passes Raban's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Tim landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Tim is working for a kimura but Raban is defending it quite comfortably.
Tim keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Raban has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tim is working away from the top position though.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Raban is looking to improve his position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tim tries to close the distance and clinch up but Raban swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Raban drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tim tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Raban trying to control but Tim is working from the bottom.
Raban tries to free his leg and advance position but Tim is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tim looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Raban puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Raban trying to control the action but Tim is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Tim tries to clinch but Raban moves out of range.

Tim gets caught flat footed, as Raban shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Tim is looking to stand back up but Raban counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Tim.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Raban in particular looking to stall.
Tim tries to get to full guard but Raban has control of the leg.

Raban with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Raban wants to pass the guard but Tim is keeping the position.
Tim has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Raban has passed into side control.
Tim tries to improve position but can't.
Tim is not content to let Raban control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tim tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Raban wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Raban will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Raban avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Tim has closed the distance and engaged Raban in a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Raban.
Raban stalling.
Tim lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Raban.
Raban misses with a short punch on the inside.
Tim softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Tim throws a punch but it's blocked by Raban.
Tim swings away with an uppercut that misses.
A body shot lands from Raban.
Tim struggles to land a body shot inside as Raban controls his hands.

A head punch on the inside from Tim fails to land.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Tim.

Raban pulls guard successfully.

Tim's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Raban had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tim defends it easily.

Raban working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Tim has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Raban is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Raban takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Raban changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Tim tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Tim closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Raban's guard.
Tim is fighting to break Raban's control of his arms but Raban is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Raban throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Raban throws a low kick, looking for Tim's leg but Tim calmly moves out of range.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Raban as he avoids it easily.
Raban swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Tim is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Raban misses with a body shot.
Raban looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Raban misses the jab.
Tim with the counter takedown but Raban avoids it easily.

and Tim counters with a head kick. That will keep Raban thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Tim is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Raban throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Tim's head.

Raban drops down looking for a counter takedown but Tim sprawls and moves away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

James Raban is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Tim counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that James Raban will probably get the nod.
That's time! Raban's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Tim shoots in for a takedown but Raban shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Tim is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Tim feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Tim fails with an attempt to clinch.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Raban lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Tim has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Tim and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Tim drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Raban defends it well.
Raban stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Raban wants it to stay on the feet.
Raban throws out a leg kick but Tim moves out of range and Raban only half commits.
Tim blocks a head kick by Raban.
James Raban is winning the standup battle so far.

Raban gets tackled into the cage by Tim. Tim maintains the clinch.
Raban is pressed up against the cage. Tim has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Raban down to the mat. Raban avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
James Raban has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tiny Tim.
Tim fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Tim is looking for a kimura but Raban is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tim to get the leverage.

Tim takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Tiny Tim has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Raban wants to get back to full guard but Tim has mounted him!

Raban tries to lock up and control but Tim gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Tim takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Tim fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Tim content just to control the position here.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Tiny Tim.
I think Raban has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
