Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, De Janeiro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Abdu Ali! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ali thows a body kick. Janeiro tries to catch it but that hurt him. Ali catches Janeiro with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Ali scores with a head kick. Janeiro tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Ali throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Janeiro tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Ali manages to circle out of the way. Ali shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ali was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Janeiro is holding Ali down, trying to stall. Janeiro has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Ali working the ground and pound but Janeiro is defending the strikes. Ali sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Janeiro is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ali is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Janeiro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ali wants to lay and pray for a moment but Janeiro keeps working. Janeiro regains half guard. Janeiro is positioning himself well to prevent Ali advancing to mount. Janeiro works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Janeiro is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Ali engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Ali tries to stand but Janeiro is controlling from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Ali swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Janeiro tries to counter by clinching up but Ali breaks away and moves out of range. Ali darts in and clinches Janeiro up against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ali looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Ali misses with an elbow strike.
Janeiro tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ali smiles and moves away.
Ali closes the distance and pushes Janeiro back into the cage. Ali wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Janeiro tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ali smiles and moves away.
Ali clinches up with Janeiro and pushes him back against the cage. Ali wants to stall.
Janeiro jumps guard but Ali turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for De Janeiro. That's going to take a lot out of him. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Janeiro pulls guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Abdu Ali dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Ali has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ali wants to get back to striking at distance but Janeiro won't allow it.
Ali lands a body punch. Janeiro keeps control of Ali as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Ali doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Ali breaks the clinch.
Abdu Ali is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ali pushes Janeiro up against the cage in a clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ali lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Janeiro jumps guard.
Ali is fighting to break Janeiro's control of his arms but Janeiro is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ali trying to control but Janeiro is working from the bottom. Janeiro pulls Ali in close to his closed guard and prevents Ali from doing any damage or advancing position. Ali has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Ali wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Janeiro's closed guard. He's half up but Janeiro has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Janeiro pivots and extends the arm, Ali falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Janeiro! Well done that man!
