PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brett Freas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vito Corleone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vito Corleone told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Vito Corleone!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Richard Clark and William Gold.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corleone shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Freas but Freas pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Freas looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Corleone!
Corleone working to try and regain half guard.
Freas fails to take his opponent's back.
Corleone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Freas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Corleone is in a horrible position here. Freas smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Freas goes for an armbar but Corleone turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Corleone.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Freas working for a triangle but Corleone defends it easily.
Corleone looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Freas keeping moving, preventing Corleone from controlling successfully.

Freas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Corleone can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Corleone passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Corleone working away.

Corleone stands up and beckons Freas to his feet.

Freas misses with a two punch combination.
Corleone gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Freas counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Freas jumps guard but Corleone stands there with Freas around his waist. Freas gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Corleone tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Freas smiles and moves away.
Brett Freas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vito Corleone.

Freas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Corleone sprawls well initially but Freas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Freas is breathing heavily.
It looks like Freas is going to stand back up.
Corleone is in trouble now - Freas has advanced to mount!
Corleone is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Corleone tries to lock up and control but Freas gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Corleone is wriggling around trying to escape.
Freas fails to take his opponent's back.

Corleone defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Freas.
Corleone wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Freas.
Freas prevents Corleone from getting the reversal.
Corleone is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Freas working for a guillotine from mount but Corleone is in no mood to give up.
Freas wants to stand but Freas is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Freas trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Corleone has given up his back. Will we see Freas going for some submissions?

Freas is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Corleone knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Corleone for a finish.

Freas working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Corleone is doing well to defend. Freas seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Corleone is forced to tap and this one is over!
