PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Burris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Fox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Fox told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pierre Burris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Fox!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fox clinches up against the cage.
Burris tries to break the clinch but Fox is controlling the position.
Burris is trying to pull guard but Fox turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Burris wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Fox misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Burris.
Burris tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Fox avoids it.
Burris putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Fox in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Fox is trying to drag Burris to the mat but Burris just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Burris has a couple of punches blocked by Fox.
Fox looking for a takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fox lands with a right to the head.
Fox works on Burris's body with a couple of short punches.
Burris changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Fox fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Fox rushes Burris and presses him up against the cage.

Burris is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Fox to keep the fight standing.

Fox pushes Burris off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Fox throws a sloppy head kick and Burris moves out of range easily.
Burris looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Burris could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Fox looks for a takedown but Burris sprawls well.
Fox shoots in looking for a takedown. Burris tries to sprawl out of it but Fox keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Burris manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Burris appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Burris shoots for a double leg takedown but Fox sprawls well. He's pushed Burris's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Fox drives through with a takedown into Burris's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fox lands a couple of elbows.
Burris not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fox throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Burris works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Fox controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Fox looking to pass the guard.
Fox throws an elbow that misses. Burris uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Fox's guard. Nice move by Burris!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Fox looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Fox has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fox throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Fox tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Burris swivels and escapes.
Burris swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Fox dives in and grabs Burris's left leg, looking for a takedown. Burris pushes down on Fox's head and hops out.
Pierre Burris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Fox.

Fox darts in and clinches Burris up against the cage.

Fox shoots in looking for a takedown. Burris tries to sprawl out of it but Fox keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Burris manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As Fox looks to move away, Burris throws a big counter combo bu Fox just gets out of the way.
Fox is breathing heavily.
Fox swats away the attempt to clinch by Burris.

Burris is trying to force a seperation but Fox has the dominant position.
Burris manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Burris tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Fox avoids it.

Fox dives in for a single leg takedown but Burris sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Fox tries to score a power double leg takedown but Burris sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fox somewhat.

Fox swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Burris decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fox's guard.

Fox uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Fox fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Burris manages to avoid it.
Steve Fox seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fox misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Burris leaves Fox with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Burris shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fox pinned against the cage. Fox gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Steve Fox is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Steve Fox.
I've got Fox winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
