PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steel Island (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryu Master (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryu Master told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Steel Island!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ryu Master!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Master staying out of range there.
Island throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Master looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Island lands a really nice looking cross but Master seems unphased.

Master drops his shoulder and cracks Island with a huge uppercut! Island goes down! Can Master finish him?


It looks like Steel Island has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Island is looking to stand back up but Master counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Island.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, if Master is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Master works his foot free and advances to mount.
Island on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Island tries to get out of the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Island wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Island tries to buck Master off but Master takes his back!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Master biding his time, controlling Island.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Master takes a swing at Island's ribcage but misses.
Master missing with a left hand there. Island was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Ryu Master seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jab, jab by Master - just one landing.
Island feints and then cracks Master's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Master down.
Master darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Master loads up on a big right hand but Island slips the punch.

Master cracks Island with an uppercut from hell and Island crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Master's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!


Island is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Master looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Oh Island is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Master forces his way into half guard.
Island seems to have got his legs back now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Master decides to stand up.
Island throws a sloppy head kick and Master moves out of range easily.
We've been informed that Master has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Master cracks Island with a big right hand and Island goes down!
Master slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Island wants to stand and escape but Master is having none of it.
Master advances position into side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Island seems a little lost for a moment, as Master dominates the positioning.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Master's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Master decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Island throws a hook to the side of Master's head but Master sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Master throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Island tumbling to the canvas!
Master wants to pass the guard but Island is keeping the position.
Master slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Island is wriggling around but Master manages to pass to half guard.
Master keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Master has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Island tries to kick Master off but Master keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryu Master showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Master looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Island swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Master lands a left and a right that sends Island crashing to the canvas! Master dives into mount looking to finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Island wants to get back to his feet.
Island tries to buck Master off but Master takes his back!
Master just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

More stalling from Master.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Island is trying to get back to his feet but Master has full control of the position and if anything, Island has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Master is riding his opponent, not letting Island buck him off.

Ryu Master comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Master has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
