Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Canelo Jhonson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jhonson fails to land the takedown.
Jhonson thuds a left hand into Wells's body.
Wells shoots in but no luck this time.

Jhonson clinches up against the cage.
Jhonson misses with a hook to the ribs.

Wells jumps into guard, dragging Jhonson to the mat.

Jhonson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jhonson tries to clinch but Wells moves out of range.

and Wells counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wells seems to be working for a kimura but Jhonson defends the submission attempt.
Wells tries to stand but can't do so whilst Jhonson controls his leg.

Jhonson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jhonson wants to take a breather but Wells manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Jhonson.

Jhonson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jhonson gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Jhonson tries to clinch but Wells moves away

and Wells counters with a shoot takedown. Jhonson fights it but they end up in guard.
Wells stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Wells is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Wells has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Wells pulls guard successfully.

Jhonson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jhonson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wells, up you get!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

A lazy left from Jhonson finds it's target.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Wells will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Canelo Jhonson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wells shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jhonson as he avoids it easily.
Jhonson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

and Jhonson counters with an inside leg kick.

Jhonson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wells's guard.

Wells is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jhonson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wells swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jhonson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wells looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wells manages to get back to half guard.

Jhonson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Ryan Wells overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wells trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Jhonson manages to pass to mount! Wells tries to lock up and control but Jhonson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Jhonson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Wells!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jhonson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Wells tries to lock up and control but Jhonson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Jhonson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wells looks a forlorn figure.
The referee warns Wells that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Wells manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jhonson manages to get himself to full guard.

Jhonson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Wells!
Jhonson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jhonson has hold of one of Wells's legs. Wells is fighting the takedown attempt but Jhonson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Wells had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jhonson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wells Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jhonson's back instead.
Wells doesn't have the hooks in and Jhonson manages to turn into his guard.

Wells moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jhonson has worked his arm free - good work by Jhonson!

Jhonson is looking to control Wells's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jhonson avoid being mounted?

Jhonson makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Wells has his takedown stuffed
and Jhonson counters with a left and a right that stings Wells.
Wells shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jhonson pinned against the cage. Jhonson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Jhonson counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Wells. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jhonson rushes Wells and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jhonson has had enough of the clinch but Wells keeps him there for the moment.

Jhonson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Wells tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jhonson smiles and moves away.

Wells manages to pull guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jhonson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wells is proving hard to escape from.
Wells is trying to control the position but Jhonson postures up.
Wells is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jhonson wants to get back to his feet.

Wells stands up from half guard.
Jhonson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Wells.

Wells is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jhonson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Wells working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jhonson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jhonson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

I think Jhonson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
