Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Coen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Peter James!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coen tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.

James gets caught flat footed, as Coen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
James keeping moving, preventing Coen from controlling successfully.

James looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
James is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Coen is controlling him.
Coen is stalling in the full guard.
James pulls Coen in close to prevent any damage.
Coen is looking to work some ground and pound but James has wrist control.
James has Coen pulled in close to control his posture.

James is trying to keep Coen in close.

James looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
James keeping moving, preventing Coen from controlling successfully.
Coen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Coen is pushing down on James's leg trying to pass to half guard. James is fighting to maintain full guard but Coen has managed to sneak the leg through.
James is refusing to be controlled, as Coen sits in half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Coen is really struggling to control James but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Coen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
James trying to hold on to Coen's head to control him but Coen postures up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
James is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Coen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as James is looking to escape.
Coen throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
James looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James is looking to improve his position but Coen isn't that keen on the idea.
James is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Coen looking to control but James is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.
Coen unloads with some shots from mount but James bucks and avoids them well.
James is squirming around, avoiding Coen's attempts to control the action.

James is desperately trying to improve his position but Coen has a good base and remains in mount.

James is mounted but he's throwing punches.

James tries to hold on but Coen pushes him away.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


James shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Coen wants to clinch.

Coen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it.
James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and James counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Coen regains full guard. Nicely done.
Coen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

James controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
James distracts Coen with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Coen can't keep his opponent in guard - James advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Coen keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
James is thwarting Coen's attempts to control the position.
Coen tries to get to full guard but James has control of the leg.
James wants to pass to mount but Coen is defending the position.
James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Coen keeps working.
James tries to stand and escape but Coen is controlling the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

James rushes Coen and presses him up against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Coen.

James has picked Coen up - he's going for a ride! James dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Coen moves into full guard.
Coen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. James manages to get himself to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Coen won't allow James to sweep him here.
Coen passes into half guard.
Coen is looking to take a break and control but James is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Coen prevents James from standing back up.
James is trying to control but can't.
James is doing well to control the position and prevent Coen from advancing to side control.
Coen wants to take a breather but James is having none of it.
James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Coen clinches but James breaks the clinch

and James counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

James will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Coen wants to clinch

and James counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
James tries for a takedown. No joy.
James is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
James wants a takedown but no success here.
Coen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

James has Coen pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. James pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Coen tumbling to the mat - James dives into Coen's guard.

Coen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Coen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because James is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
James tries to stand but Coen is controlling from the bottom.

James decides to stand and escape the position.

Coen using the Thai plumb to throw knees but James has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

James pulls guard effortlessly.
James wants to stand but Coen is controlling the position.

Coen has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing James to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Coen is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - James pulls down on the head and he's put Coen to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Peter James!
