PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jong Un Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marat Tandelov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Marat Tandelov was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jong Un Kim!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marat Tandelov!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim looks for the body kick but Tandelov saw that one coming.
Kim misses with a wild body shot.
Tandelov throws a right and a left that Kim avoids nicely.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tandelov paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kim has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Kim connects with a solid leg kick.
A jab from Tandelov does it's job there.
Tandelov misses with an uppercut. Kim saw that one coming.
Tandelov tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Tandelov scores with a takedown into Kim's guard.

Kim working for a triangle but Tandelov defends it easily.

Kim is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tandelov is aware though and is defending well.

Kim escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tandelov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kim is trying to keep Tandelov in close.
Kim wants to improve his position but instead Tandelov has moved into half guard.

Tandelov is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kim slaps away a takedown attempt from Tandelov, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kim looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Tandelov takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Kim bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Tandelov throws a right hand that misses
and Kim makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Tandelov misses with an uppercut.

Kim gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kim lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Tandelov.
Kim misses with a punch to the body.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Tandelov blocking some punches.
Kim tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Kim can't find room to land a body shot as Tandelov controls the action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kim lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Tandelov is trying to break the clinch but Kim is controlling him.
Kim misses with the head strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jong Un Kim dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kim looks for the body kick but Tandelov saw that one coming.
Kim bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Tandelov's head backwards.

Tandelov misses with a body shot
and Kim connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Tandelov scores with a hook.
Kim fakes the leg kick and cracks Tandelov in the body.
Kim dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Tandelov walks forward, straight into a front kick from Kim.
Kim throws a leg kick but Tandelov moved away.
Tandelov walks into a stiff left hand from Kim.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kim connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Kim has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kim there as he acknowledges the shot.
Tandelov just misses with a punch to the body.
It looked like Kim was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Tandelov.
Kim avoids the body shot from Tandelov.
Kim throws the left hand but Tandelov avoids the punch easily.

Kim bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Kim throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Kim connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kim. Tandelov does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kim dodges the punch combination from Tandelov.
A swing and a miss from Kim.
Tandelov thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kim slips a jab and a cross from Tandelov.
That kick from Kim tenderised Tandelov's leg. Tandelov is trying to keep his angry face on.
Kim throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Kim is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tandelov can do to turn this around?
Tandelov throws a poor cross that misses
and Kim cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kim cracks the inside of Tandelov's front leg.
Kim uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tandelov.
Kim throws a hook but Tandelov avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tandelov! But no joy.
Tandelov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kim was well out of range. Poor timing from Tandelov.
Kim appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Kim works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kim lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Tandelov throws a hook but Kim avoids it easily.
Jong Un Kim is winning the standup battle so far.
Kim lands a slapping body shot.
Both fighters circling a little - Kim finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Kim tries to land a front kick but Tandelov steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Kim misses with a kick to the body.
Kim moves out of range of the strikes.
A telegraphed right hand from Tandelov misses the target.
Tandelov just misses with a punch to the body.
It appears Kim was looking to counter with a kick there.
Kim misses with a body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kim. Tandelov does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tandelov lands with a nice body punch.

Some bone on bone action there as Tandelov checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Kim throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Kim ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kim dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tandelov. That did some damage!

and Tandelov counters with a shoot takedown. Kim fights it but they end up in guard.

Kim is trying to control the position but Tandelov postures up.

Tandelov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kim is pulling down on Tandelov's head. It's preventing any offense from Tandelov, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kim connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jong Un Kim dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kim takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A solid leg kick lands there for Kim.
Tandelov lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Tandelov's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Tandelov goes for a double leg but Kim avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kim continues to drive forward.
Tandelov takes a jab right on the kisser.
Nice body punch from Kim.
Kim looks to land a right hand but Tandelov moved out of range.
Kim connects with a body shot that sends Tandelov's belly button to the back.
Tandelov misses the shot to the body.
Tandelov moves out of range of the body kick.
Kim thumps Tandelov with a low kick.

Tandelov gets a double leg takedown into Kim's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kim not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kim working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tandelov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tandelov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tandelov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Kim controls Tandelov momentarily but Tandelov frees himself.
Kim is really struggling to control Tandelov but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Tandelov content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Kim has locked up a guillotine! Kim's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Tandelov is holding on here and Kim must be using up a lot of energy. Tandelov has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Kim gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jong Un Kim!

Jong Un Kim decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
