PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edogawa Conan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Enzo Moretti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Conan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Detective Conan Theme. Moretti has chosen CHANGES as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edogawa Conan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Enzo Moretti!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moretti loads up on a big right hand but Conan slips the punch.
Conan connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Moretti's hands.
Moretti attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
An attempted straight right counter from Conan misses the target.
Conan moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Conan scores with a jab to the jaw.
Conan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Conan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Moretti sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Moretti connects with an inside leg kick.
Conan moves out of range of the leg kick from Moretti.
Conan looks to score with a jab to the body but Moretti is just out of range.
Conan misses with an uppercut
and Moretti counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Conan on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Moretti looks to land a combination but Conan avoids it well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Conan looks to land a left hand but Moretti moved out of range nicely.
Moretti throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Conan on the side of the head.
Moretti doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Moretti replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Conan blocks it well.

Moretti has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Moretti shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Moretti throws a jab when Conan was well out of range.
Conan appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Moretti misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Conan loads up on a big right hand but Moretti slips the punch.
Moretti drops his hands momentarily and Conan takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Conan was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Moretti stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Moretti gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Conan.
Good leg kick by Moretti there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Conan throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Moretti counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Conan looks to land a left hand but Moretti moved out of range nicely.
Conan takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
We've been hearing reports that Conan has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Conan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Conan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Conan goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Moretti rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Conan's guard! Nice work there by Moretti!

Conan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Conan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Moretti has picked Conan up and slammed him! Conan can't keep hold of the triangle and Moretti manages to pass to side control!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Edogawa Conan will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Moretti struggles to land a body shot inside as Conan controls his hands.

Moretti doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moretti tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Conan's elbow.

Conan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Moretti walks away with a smile on his face. Conan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Moretti tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Moretti throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Conan drops down looking for a counter takedown but Moretti sprawls and moves away.

Conan uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Moretti has time to react.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Moretti is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Conan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Moretti sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Conan wants to control but Moretti is keeping him busy.

Conan takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Conan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Conan checks a leg kick.
Conan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Moretti stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Moretti ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Conan moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Edogawa Conan.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Conan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
