PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lee Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan iel Russo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lee Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan iel Russo!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Russo clinches.

Russo decides to pull guard.
Russo wants to stand but Thomas is controlling the position.
Thomas advances position into side control!

Thomas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Russo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Russo tries to escape but Thomas is in control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thomas goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Russo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Thomas's guard! Nice work there by Russo!

Thomas pushes Russo off and gets back to his feet.
Thomas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Russo's waist but Russo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thomas off to one side.

Thomas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Russo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Russo is looking to get back to his feet here but Thomas is keeping cool and he's managed to take Russo's back.
Thomas gets his hands free as Russo looks to control.
Thomas is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Russo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thomas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thomas keeps control of the position easily here as Russo tries to buck him off.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Thomas wants to control but Russo is keeping busy.

Russo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Thomas sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Russo tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Thomas is positioning himself well to prevent Russo advancing to mount.
Russo slips a nice elbow through Thomas's hands, connecting with Thomas's forehead.
Thomas is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Russo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Russo's back!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Thomas is looking to control Russo but Russo is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Russo is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Thomas goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Russo escapes and is now in half guard on top.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Russo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Thomas is holding on to half guard well.
Russo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Thomas is trying to control but Russo passes into side control!

Russo decides to stand back up. Russo steps back and let's Thomas get back to his feet.
Thomas is looking to clinch.
Russo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Thomas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Thomas breaks from Russo's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Russo is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Thomas trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Thomas controlling the pace for now.

A nice elbow there by Thomas.
Russo tries to buck Thomas off but he can't manage it.
Thomas has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Russo's face.
Russo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Thomas tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lee Thomas will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Russo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Thomas manages to get to full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Thomas holds on and takes a little breather.
Thomas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Thomas is on top in guard.

Thomas drops back, looking for a kneebar! Russo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Russo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Russo!
Lee Thomas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Thomas is trying to improve his position.
Russo trying to control the action but Thomas is working from the bottom.
Thomas regains half guard, as Russo was trying to land strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Thomas won't allow Russo to pass to mount.
Thomas is trying to maintain the position but Russo is very close to passing his half guard.
Thomas works his way to full guard. Good work.

Russo is thwarting Thomas's attempts to control the position.
Russo thows a huge punch but Thomas dodges it nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Lee Thomas just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
A lazy left from Russo finds it's target.

Lee Thomas is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Thomas goes for an armbar but Russo turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Russo.

I would just about give that final round to Dan iel Russo.
I think Thomas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
