PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Koko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jiyovanni Kune Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maxwell Koko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jiyovanni Kune Do!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Reed Andrews and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kune Do lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Kune Do fails to land with a series of punches.
Kune Do tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Koko manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Koko seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Kune Do is looking to clinch.

Koko has taken the fight to the clinch.
Koko tries to throw a body punch but Kune Do avoids it by throwing Koko back against the cage.
Koko is trying to break the clinch but Kune Do has him pressed against the cage.
Kune Do with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Maxwell Koko has been cut.
Koko drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Koko has Kune Do pressed against the cage, preventing Kune Do from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Koko is trying to stall.

Kune Do pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koko shoots for a takedown but Kune Do saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Koko tries to clinch up but Kune Do circles away and keeps his distance.
Kune Do moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Koko fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kune Do, pushing him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kune Do breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kune Do goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
No joy there for Kune Do, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Koko slips a jab and a cross from Kune Do.
Kune Do tries to close the distance and clinch up but Koko swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Koko with a poor takedown
and Kune Do counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maxwell Koko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koko looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kune Do throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Koko is looking for a counter combo.
Kune Do moves in looking to clinch but Koko pushes him off.
No joy there for Kune Do, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kune Do keeps the fight on the outside.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Koko crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kune Do - the referee stops the clock and Koko gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kune Do. Koko manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Jiyovanni Kune Do seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Koko pulls guard successfully.
Koko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Koko has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Kune Do doesn't defend quickly enough and Koko has managed to lock this one up! Can Kune Do escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Koko on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Maxwell Koko!
