PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alf Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rangi Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alf Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rangi Smith!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Darius Henderson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.

Stewart has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.
Smith is pressed up against the cage. Stewart has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Stewart moves into the clinch successfully.
Smith looking to stall.
Smith is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Stewart to keep the fight standing.
Smith is pushing Stewart up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Stewart.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Smith just misses with a elbow thrown towards Stewart's brow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stewart has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Stewart jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Stewart gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Smith takes one to the chin there.

Stewart lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Smith backs up against the cage.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Stewart really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Stewart misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.
Smith fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Stewart.
Stewart throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.

Stewart has taken the fight to the clinch.
Smith has Stewart pressed against the cage, preventing Stewart from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Smith comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Smith tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Stewart's elbow.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Smith drops down looking for an ankle pick but Stewart pulls his leg out and moves away.
Stewart cracks a nice hook into Smith's ribs.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stewart is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Smith.
Smith steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stewart.
Stewart scores with a jab. Smith acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Stewart throws a jab when Smith was well out of range.
Smith doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alf Stewart dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Stewart counters with a three punch combo that has Smith backing up. Smith nods at Stewart to acknowledge the strikes.

Smith dives in for a single leg takedown but Stewart sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Stewart catches Smith with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Stewart avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Stewart lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Stewart throws a leg kick but Smith checks it.
Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smith gets tackled into the cage by Stewart. Stewart maintains the clinch.

Rangi Smith seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Stewart looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Alf Stewart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rangi Smith.

Stewart is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Stewart. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet.

Stewart lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Smith stuns Stewart with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Stewart swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Smith.

and Smith counters with a crisp one two that drops Stewart! Smith thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Stewart to his feet! Stewart is in big trouble!

Stewart throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.
Smith lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Oh Stewart is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Smith is throwing punches like he's double parked. Oh my word! Huge right hand from Smith shuts the power down on Stewart. Lights out, game over! Smith is your winner.
