PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Speedy Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ripper has chosen Candlefuse-fighter as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Speedy Light!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Ripper!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Light takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Ripper shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Light but Light pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ripper throws a low kick but it's checked well by Light.
Light takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Light will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Light misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Light takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Ripper has a takedown stuffed.
Light appears to be looking for a big counter.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Light uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ripper.
Light went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Speedy Light is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Light throws a right hand that Ripper ducks under and follows up with a left that Ripper also avoids with ease.
Light swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Light has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ripper finds it's way round the side to connect with Light's head.
Light throws out a loose jab but Ripper uses good head movement to avoid it.

Ripper fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Light to the ground. Ripper is now in Light's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Ripper trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ripper slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Light wants to stand but Ripper is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ripper stays in close to Light's body and controls the position.
Ripper wants to pass the guard but Light is keeping the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ripper throws a right hand that misses
and Light counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ripper gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Light throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ripper sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ripper throws an off balance right hand
and Light counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ripper lands a head shot.
A big right from Ripper misses.
Ripper looks to score with a jab to the body but Light is just out of range.
Ripper uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Light has time to react.
Ripper throws a lazy uppercut
and Light counters with a left and a right that stings Ripper.
Light will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ripper clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Light misses with a punch to the body.
Ripper scores with a nice hook to the head.
Ripper working some nice short punches in the clinch.


Light is rocked!
Ripper keeps control of Light as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Oh Light is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ripper creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Light with a big uppercut! Light tries to clinch up but Ripper pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Light to the mat! Light covers up and Ripper unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Rick Ripper!
