PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mark Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Duphus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Duphus!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jack goes for a double leg but Duphus avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Duphus continues to drive forward.
Duphus closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jack circles away.
Jack stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Duphus.

Duphus has Jack up against the cage in a clinch.

Jack manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Jack could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Duphus throws a big elbow that misses.
Duphus throwing strikes from guard but Jack blocks nicely.
Duphus wants to stand but Jack is controlling his posture from full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duphus looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Duphus's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Jack is trying to control the position but Duphus postures up.
Jack seems keen to control Duphus's posture.
Duphus won't allow Jack to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Duphus clinches.
Duphus tries to break free but Jack pushes him back against the cage.
Duphus has had enough of the clinch but Jack keeps him there for the moment.

Duphus breaks the clinch.
Jack looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Jack clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Duphus turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Jack is not content to let Duphus control the position.
Duphus in the domination position with Jack hanging on.
Jack prevents Duphus from improving position.
Jack can't do much from the bottom here.

Duphus is trying to get an arm triangle but Jack is defending well.
Jack is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Duphus has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Jack wants to control but Duphus postures up.

Duphus looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Jack is looking to regain half guard here but Duphus keeps moving and retains side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jack is not content to let Duphus control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Jack looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Jack is breathing heavily.
Duphus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Duphus is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jack is aware though and is defending well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jack pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Duphus is keeping the position for now.

That's time! Jack's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Jack stuffs the takedown.
Jack attempts a counter takedown but Duphus avoids it well and moves away.
Jack closes the distance looking to clinch
and Duphus counters with a one-two to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Duphus. Jack does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mark Jack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Duphus fails with an attempt to clinch.

Jack bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Duphus is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jack staying calm.
Duphus is breathing heavily.
Duphus wants to control but Jack postures up.

Duphus is trying to get back to his feet.

Jack wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Duphus, who protects the arm well.
Duphus tries to improve position but can't.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jack lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Jack tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Jack wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Duphus, who protects the arm well.
Duphus is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jack asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Duphus parries the strikes from Jack easily there. Jack is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Duphus to escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jack shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jack fails in his attempt to clinch.

Duphus closes the distance and clinches.
Jack is trying to pull guard but Duphus has him pressed against the cage.
Duphus displaying some good clinch control by pressing Jack up against the cage.
Jack tries to stall but Duphus uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Jack breaks the clinch.
Duphus tries for a takedown but Jack sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jack tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Duphus swivels and escapes.
Duphus throws a counter combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Jack. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Duphus moves into range and clinches up with Jack.
Duphus tries a knee to the head but Jack blocks it.

Duphus breaks from the clinch.

Jack looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jack not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Jack looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Duphus with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Duphus is trying to stand.
Jack is looking to stall here but Duphus recovers full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Jack dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Duphus is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Duphus keeps the fight on the outside.
Nice sprawl there from Jack as Duphus shoots in.
Jack was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Jack tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Duphus defends well and Jack ends up having to push Duphus into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
And Duphus tries to counter it with a takedown but Jack pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Jack pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jack shoots in but no luck this time.

Duphus throws a series of punches but Jack moves out of range.

Duphus tries to keep at a distance but Jack has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jack tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Jack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Duphus obliges.
Duphus misses with some punches.
Duphus gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jack.
Duphus keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jack's efforts to push away.
Jack drops down looking for an ankle pick but Duphus pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duphus lands with a thumping leg kick.
Duphus tries to clinch but Jack is having none of it.

Duphus has closed the distance and engaged Jack in a clinch.
Duphus lands a body shot in the clinch.

Duphus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jack swats away the attempt to clinch by Duphus.
Duphus throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Jack's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duphus cracks the inside of Jack's front leg.
Jack throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Duphus's waist but Duphus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jack off to one side.

Duphus scores with a takedown into Jack's guard.
Jack has a closed guard, preventing Duphus from standing up.

Jack looking for a guillotine here but Duphus defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jack is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Duphus controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Jack lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jack postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jack controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rick Duphus comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Duphus has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
