PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Geese Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fidel Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Fidel Castro!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard tries to land a front kick but Castro steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Castro tries to counter with a clinch but Howard shakes him off and moves away.
A head kick misses from Howard .
Howard misses with a head kick.
Howard misses with a head kick.
Geese Howard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Howard throws a head kick that misses.
Castro shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Howard sprawls well. Howard wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Castro gets slowly back to his feet.

Castro clinches up against the cage.
Castro looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Castro prevents Howard from breaking the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Castro pulls Howard into guard.
Castro is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Castro is on top in guard.

Castro slips nicely into half guard.
Castro seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Howard tries to roll over but Castro keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Howard avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Castro.
Still in half guard, Castro seems content to control.

Castro stands up out of the half guard.
Howard misses with a kick to the body
and Castro counters with a three punch combo that has Howard backing up. Howard nods at Castro to acknowledge the strikes.
Howard pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Howard gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Castro gets to his feet - Howard follows without any prompting.
Howard throws a lazy head kick
and Castro counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Castro has a takedown stuffed.
Castro avoids the head kick by Howard .
Howard is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Castro closes the distance and clinches.
Howard prevents the takedown attempt.
Geese Howard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fidel Castro.
Howard wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Howard looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Howard is trying to break the clinch but Castro has him pressed against the cage.
Castro has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Howard is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Castro manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Castro throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Howard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Castro manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Howard manages to get himself to full guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Castro's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Castro with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Castro forces his way into half guard.
Castro is taking a breather. Howard says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Howard counters with a head kick. That will keep Castro thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Castro is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Howard .
Howard throws a wild body kick that Castro sees coming a mile off.

Castro clinches with his opponent.
Howard is looking to break free of the clinch but Castro has double underhooks.
Castro keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Howard 's efforts to push away.

Castro manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Castro is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Howard rolls with it to try and escape but Castro cranks on the arm and Howard is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
