PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Eggman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Taylor is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Penn state pump up song. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Eggman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Alyssa Summers and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eggman displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Taylor.
Eggman ducks right into an uppercut from Taylor.

Taylor gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Taylor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Eggman tries to free his leg and advance position but Taylor is retaining full guard.
Taylor is controlling Eggman's posture.
Eggman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Taylor is trying to control the position but Eggman postures up.

Taylor has his foot on Eggman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Eggman works his way back into a safe position though.
Eggman wants to control from the top but Taylor keeps moving.

Taylor is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Eggman is aware though and is defending well.
Eggman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Taylor working for a triangle but Eggman defends it easily.
Taylor is trying to control the position but Eggman postures up.
Eggman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Eggman would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Taylor dives in and grabs Eggman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Eggman pushes down on Taylor's head and hops out.
Taylor dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Eggman. That did some damage!

Taylor is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Eggman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Eggman has escaped and now he's on top!

Eggman wants to get up but he can't break Taylor's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Eggman engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Taylor preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Taylor is looking for a triangle but Eggman pushes his legs off easily.
Taylor utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Eggman trying to control but Taylor is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Eggman tries to sprawl but Taylor drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Eggman is controlling Taylor's trapped leg to prevent Taylor from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Taylor dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Taylor walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Taylor shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Eggman sprawls well. Eggman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Taylor gets slowly back to his feet.

Eggman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Taylor quickly recovers to half guard.
Still in half guard, Eggman seems content to control.
Taylor has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at The Factory. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Taylor wants to get back to full guard.

Taylor is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Eggman pulls his head out easily.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Eggman wants to stand but Taylor has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Eggman counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Taylor is looking to clinch.
Eggman throws a big counter combination but Taylor scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Taylor closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Eggman quickly recovers to half guard.
Taylor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Eggman keeps working.
Eggman is trying to maintain the position but Taylor is very close to passing his half guard.

Eggman is trying to stand up here but Taylor is controlling him well.

Taylor is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Eggman doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Taylor.

Eggman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Taylor is working away from the top position though.
Eggman is looking to get back to is feet but Taylor passes into side control.
David Taylor has got the better of the ground game so far.

Eggman is looking for a sweep.
Eggman manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Eggman seems to be working for a kimura but Taylor defends the submission attempt.
Taylor gets back to full guard.

Taylor looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Eggman has picked Taylor up and slammed him! Taylor can't keep hold of the triangle and Eggman manages to pass to side control!
Taylor tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Eggman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Eggman decides to stand back up. Eggman steps back and let's Taylor get back to his feet.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dan Eggman will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Taylor tries to close the distance and clinch but Eggman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Taylor shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Eggman but Eggman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Eggman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Eggman looks for the body kick but Taylor saw that one coming.

Eggman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Taylor's guard.

Taylor is looking for a triangle but Eggman pushes his legs off easily.
Eggman advances position into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Eggman tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Taylor is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Eggman trying to control the action but Taylor is working from the bottom.
Eggman thows a huge punch but Taylor dodges it nicely.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Eggman in particular looking to stall.
Taylor is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Eggman thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Taylor is not content to let Eggman control the position.
Taylor is trying to control but can't.
Eggman passes the guard and advances to mount!

Eggman is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Eggman feints and as Taylor raises his hands in defense, Eggman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Taylor is working an open guard so Eggman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Eggman pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Taylor closes this distance looking for a takedown but Eggman circles away.
Eggman fails in his attempt to clinch.
Taylor unleashes a big counter combination but Eggman bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Eggman looking to score a takedown here. Taylor is defending well but Eggman drives through and ends up in Taylor's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Eggman throwing strikes but missing.
Eggman passes Taylor's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Eggman stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Taylor gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well Eggman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
