Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hector Carwin!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook fails with a takedown attempt.
Carwin swats away the attempt to clinch by Cook.
Carwin throws a leg kick that misses.
Carwin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Carwin looks to land a combination but Cook avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carwin fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Carwin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cook dives in for a single leg takedown but Carwin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Cook. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cook shoots for a double leg takedown but Carwin sprawls well. He's pushed Cook's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cook closes the distance and pushes Carwin back into the cage.

Cook has hold of one of Carwin's legs. Carwin is fighting the takedown attempt but Cook gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Cook trying to control the position from guard on top but Carwin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cook scoring with some ground and pound.
Cook forces his way into half guard.
Cook is trying to control the action in half guard but Carwin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carwin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Carwin wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cook is trying to control. Carwin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Carwin is in trouble now - Cook has advanced to mount!
Cook trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Cook is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Carwin has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Cook moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Carwin has worked his arm free - good work by Carwin!
Carwin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cook wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cook trying to control the position but Carwin is working away.
Cook controlling the position.
Carwin can't do much from the bottom here.
Cook will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
A lull in the action here.
Carwin regains half guard, as Cook was trying to land strikes.
Cook controlling the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carwin wants to get back to full guard.
Cook is trying to control. Carwin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Cook closes the distance and pushes Carwin back into the cage.

Carwin breaks the clinch.

Cook darts in and clinches Carwin up against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cook tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Carwin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Cook is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Carwin is defending well.

Carwin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Cook will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Carwin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cook doesn't seem bothered though.
Carwin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cook wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Carwin misses with a double jab
and Cook counters with a nice body shot.
Cook dives in for a single leg takedown but Carwin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Cook shoots in but no luck this time.
Carwin plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Cook to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Cook just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Hector Carwin!
In defeat, John Cook stepped up to the mic, saying 'Thank your for the great fight.'.
