The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Russell instigates a clinch.

Russell has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jambo uses from the top position.
Jambo content to stall in guard here.
Jambo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Russell for as long as he can get away with.
Jambo trying to control but Russell is working from the bottom.
Russell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Russell working for a triangle but Jambo defends it easily.
Jambo trying to control the position from guard on top but Russell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Jambo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Russell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Russell wants to get back to his feet but Jambo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jambo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Russell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Russell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jambo has one of Russell's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Russell wants to control but Jambo is keeping him busy.
Jambo regains half guard, as Russell was trying to land strikes.
Jambo is trying to get back to full guard.
Russell is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Russell prevents Jambo from improving his position.
Russell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jambo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jambo tries to get to full guard but Russell has control of the leg.

Jambo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jambo.
Jambo is trying to keep Russell in close.
Russell wants to stand but Jambo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Jambo pulls Russell in close to his closed guard and prevents Russell from doing any damage or advancing position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Russell wants to clinch

and Jambo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Russell won't be happy with that.
Jambo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Russell keeps working.

Jambo has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Russell is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Jambo yanks on the arm and Russell is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Jambo.
