The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Akki closes the distance and pushes Ulrich back into the cage.
Akki swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Ulrich is trying to pull guard but Akki turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Ulrich takes a shot to the head.
Akki lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Akki works on Ulrich's body with a couple of short punches.

Akki breaks from the clinch.

Akki darts in and clinches Ulrich up against the cage.
Akki lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Ulrich tries to pull guard but Akki holds him up against the cage and eventually Ulrich drops back down to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ulrich tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Akki lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Ulrich or not.
Ulrich is breathing heavily.
Akki presses Ulrich against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Akki manages to break the clinch.
Ulrich changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Akki tries to avoid it but Ulrich manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Akki to the ground. Akki escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Akki's coach down at Boston MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Akki's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Akki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Akki connects with a leg kick. Ulrich looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Akki lands a nice looking kick to the body. Ulrich takes a step back to recover.

Akki sends Ulrich crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Akki is motioning to the referee to let Ulrich up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Akki lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Ulrich jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Akki walks away with a smile on his face. Ulrich gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Akki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ulrich doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Akki counters with a nice uppercut.

Javier Ulrich's cut is getting worse.

Akki fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ulrich, pushing him back against the cage.
Akki lands a right hand.
Ulrich jumps guard but Akki turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Akki lands a shoulder strike.
Akki lands a left hand that snaps the head of Ulrich backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Akki digs a right hand underneath Ulrich's ribcage. Ulrich let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Akki lands an uppercut.

Akki manages to break the clinch.

Akki lands a left and a right that send Ulrich crashing to the mat, dazed. Akki thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Oh Ulrich is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Good leg kick by Akki there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Javier Ulrich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Akki lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Ulrich falls backwards - clearly groggy! Akki dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

After winning the bout, Terry Akki thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
