PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Seppo Kastinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Seppo Kastinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 43 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Jin Kim!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim misses with a double jab

so Kastinen counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kastinen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kim swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kastinen throws a big elbow that misses.
Kastinen trying to control but Kim is working from the bottom.
Kim seems keen to control Kastinen's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kastinen won't allow Kim to sweep him here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kastinen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kim paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Kastinen as Kim shoots in.
Kim tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kastinen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kim somewhat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kastinen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kastinen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kastinen uses his free foot to push down on Kim's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kim.

Kastinen swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kim is now in Kastinen's guard. A big mistake from Kastinen there, giving up the dominant position!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kim drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kastinen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kim has Kastinen in his guard.

Kastinen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Kastinen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kim does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kim working his ground and pound in the gym.
Kim postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kastinen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kim can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kim looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kastinen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kastinen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kim is working away from the top position though.

I think Kim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
