The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brett takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Brett has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Victory Gym and Spa in the buildup to the fight.
Brett misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Brett checks a low kick from McDonald.
Both fighters circling a little - McDonald finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Brett swats away the attempt to clinch by McDonald.
McDonald looks to land a body kick but Brett moved away.
McDonald throws a quick inside leg kick.
McDonald is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Brett.
Brett looks for the body kick but McDonald saw that one coming.
Brett blocks a head kick by McDonald.
McDonald tries to clinch up.
Brett attempts a counter takedown but McDonald avoids it well and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brett closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McDonald's guard.
McDonald wants to sweep but no luck.
McDonald working a defensive guard but Brett manages to pass into side control anyway.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McDonald is looking to regain half guard here but Brett keeps moving and retains side control.

Brett is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. McDonald looks calm but he's in trouble here. Brett gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. McDonald is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Brett lets go of the hold and McDonald can pop his arm back in it's socket.

In his post fight interview, Benny Brett started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
