PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Giovanni Humphrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Sander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Giovanni Humphrey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Sander!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sander gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Humphrey counters with a takedown into side control.
Sander manages to get back to half guard.
Humphrey working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Humphrey is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sander doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Humphrey.
Humphrey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Humphrey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sander is just riding it out for now. Humphrey eventually gives up the hold.

Humphrey is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Sander still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Sander has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Sander tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Humphrey has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sander prevents Humphrey from improving his position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sander is looking to take a break and control but Humphrey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ben Sander seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Humphrey throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sander was covering up waiting for the punch and Humphrey finishes the takedown easily into guard.

and Humphrey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sander's guard.

Sander is working an open guard so Humphrey takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Humphrey tries to pull guard but Sander forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Humphrey jumps guard but Sander turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Giovanni Humphrey. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Humphrey has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sander uses from the top position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Humphrey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sander manages to get himself to full guard.

Humphrey shoots in and gets a takedown into Sander's guard.

Humphrey stands up over Sander, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Humphrey is in close to Sander's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Humphrey changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sander looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Sander is working to avoid the ground and pound but Humphrey connects with a decent elbow.

Humphrey has hold of Sander's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Sander tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Humphrey cranks the arm and Sander screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Sander, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
