PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Gouveia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jegor Pawlow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Gouveia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jegor Pawlow!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pawlow changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gouveia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pawlow looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Gouveia is avoiding damage well.
Pawlow throws an elbow but Gouveia slips to the side and avoids it well.
Pawlow tries to move to mount but Gouveia blocks the move with his legs.
Pawlow controls the position.
Gouveia is breathing heavily.
Pawlow working the body and head with strikes.
Gouveia is trying to escape the position but Pawlow is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pawlow has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Let's hope that Pawlow has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Gouveia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pawlow on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Pawlow is working for a guillotine from mount but Gouveia frees his head quite easily.

Pawlow has control of Gouveia's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gouveia regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pawlow is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Gouveia definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Gouveia rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pawlow moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pawlow closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Pawlow works to advance to full mount. Gouveia defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Pawlow controlling the pace for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jegor Pawlow dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Pawlow shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Pawlow stands and throws Gouveia's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Pawlow wants to stand but Gouveia is controlling his arm.

Pawlow tries for a kimura but Gouveia is defending well.
Pawlow is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jegor Pawlow has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pawlow thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Gouveia takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The referee asks Pawlow politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Pawlow prefers to stall for the moment though.

Pawlow lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gouveia down.
Gouveia tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pawlow wants to stand but Gouveia is controlling his arm.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Pawlow looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Gouveia!

Pawlow is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Gouveia looks calm but he's in trouble here. Pawlow gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Gouveia is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Pawlow lets go of the hold and Gouveia can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jegor Pawlow!
