PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Axel Whitecoat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whitecoat comes into the arena with Seven Nation Army blaring out of the sound system. Flare has chosen Also Sprach Zarathustra as his entrance music. Rick Flare has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 28 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Axel Whitecoat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Flare!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Whitecoat. No joy for Flare on that attempt.
Whitecoat is looking to counter punch.
Flare throws a hook to the side of Whitecoat's head but Whitecoat sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Whitecoat swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Flare shoots for a takedown but Whitecoat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
An attempted straight right counter from Whitecoat misses the target.

Flare looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Whitecoat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Flare is working away from the top position though.
Whitecoat tries to roll over but Flare keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Flare is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Whitecoat sees it coming and defends easily.
Whitecoat tries to get to full guard but Flare has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whitecoat regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Flare.
Flare stopping the sweep attempt from Whitecoat.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Flare's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Flare with a flurry of punches that miss.
Whitecoat preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Whitecoat is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Flare throwing strikes but missing.
Whitecoat utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Flare trying to control but Whitecoat is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Whitecoat looking to hit a scissor sweep but Flare is one step ahead there.
Whitecoat keeping moving, preventing Flare from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Flare fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Whitecoat avoids it really well and circles away.
Axel Whitecoat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Flare.
Flare misses with a takedown attempt - Whitecoat sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It looked like Whitecoat wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Flare throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Whitecoat's waist but Whitecoat gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Flare off to one side.
Horrible takedown attempt by Flare or perhaps it was just good defense by Whitecoat, which made it look bad.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Flare is defended easily by Whitecoat.
It looked like Whitecoat wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Flare shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Whitecoat's guard.

Flare is in close to Whitecoat's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Flare postures up in Whitecoat's guard and throws a big left but Whitecoat blocks it.
Whitecoat has his hands on Flare's head, controlling the position.
Flare with a nice head shot there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Flare trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Whitecoat trying to keep a closed guard but Flare is proving a slippery customer.

Rick Flare dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Whitecoat cracks a nice hook into Flare's ribs.
Flare dives in for a single leg takedown but Whitecoat sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Whitecoat uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Flare.
Whitecoat throwing a counter right hand but Flare manages to avoid it.
Flare fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Flare tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whitecoat sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Flare somewhat.

A little feinted left hand from Whitecoat on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Flare shoots in but Whitecoat avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Whitecoat missing with a left hand there. Flare was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Flare jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Flare shoots in for a takedown but Whitecoat shows good takedown defense.
Flare takes one to the chin there.
Whitecoat defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Flare.
A little feinted left hand from Whitecoat on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Flare shoots in and bounces Whitecoat off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Flare preventing the sweep.
Flare keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Whitecoat's head.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Whitecoat is on top in guard.

Flare is not content to let Whitecoat control the position.

Flare wants to control but Whitecoat is keeping busy.
Whitecoat tries to pass to full mount but Flare defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Flare shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Whitecoat as he jumps to the side.

Flare decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Whitecoat tries to get to full guard but Flare has control of the leg.

Whitecoat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Flare is working away from the top position though.
Whitecoat is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Flare's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Flare's back!

Flare rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Flare has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Whitecoat thows a huge punch but Flare dodges it nicely.
Whitecoat is controlling the pace.
Whitecoat's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Flare is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Whitecoat is staying active.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Flare darts in looking for a takedown but Whitecoat gets double underhooks and turns Flare into the cage.
Whitecoat is looking to counter punch.
Flare keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Whitecoat.
Whitecoat throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Flare sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Flare misses with a takedown attempt
and Whitecoat counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Flare bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Rick Flare seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Whitecoat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Whitecoat wants it to stay on the feet.
