The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
As Mercer backs off Gracie throws a huge counter combo but Mercer manages to avoid it all.
Gracie goes for a double leg but Mercer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mercer continues to drive forward.
It looked like Mercer was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Gracie misses with a looping right.

Mercer clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage.
Mercer gets underhooks to prevent Gracie's takedown attempt.

Gracie has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mercer regains guard immediately.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Mercer is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mercer is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mercer displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gracie throws out the jab.
Mercer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mercer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gracie looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Mercer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gracie sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mercer somewhat.

Mercer manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.

Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mercer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mercer has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.

Mercer is posturing up here but Gracie has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Mercer tries to roll out but it's too tight and Mercer has to tap! Slick submission there by Gracie!
