PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Jass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan McLeod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hugh Jass has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hugh Jass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jordan McLeod!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McLeod closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jass's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Jass has his hands on McLeod's head, controlling the position.
Jass is trying to keep McLeod in close.

Jass escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McLeod gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jass isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. McLeod stacks Jass on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by McLeod!
Jass is not content to let McLeod control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jass tries to get back to half guard but can't.

McLeod thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
McLeod wants to control but Jass is keeping him busy.

McLeod misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

McLeod is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jass has escaped the position, nice work there.

Jass wants to hold on but McLeod pushes him away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jass bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
McLeod controls Jass momentarily but Jass frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

McLeod throws a looping overhand right but Jass ducks down to avoid it.
McLeod's coach down at Steel Penn/Heavy Hands Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on McLeod's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Jass shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McLeod pinned against the cage. McLeod gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

As McLeod looks to move away, Jass throws a big counter combo bu McLeod just gets out of the way.
Jass throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by McLeod.
McLeod tries to close the distance and clinch but Jass swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jass appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Jass jabs McLeod to the body, keeping him at a distance.
McLeod tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jass manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jass throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Jass lands with an overhand left.

Jass throws a half hearted mid kick.
McLeod misses the shot to the body.
McLeod throws a hook but Jass blocks it.

McLeod is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

McLeod connects with a leg kick. Jass looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Good leg kick by Jass there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
McLeod closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

and McLeod counters with a shoot takedown. Jass fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jass had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McLeod defends it easily.
McLeod lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Jass is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McLeod is aware though and is defending well.

McLeod might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jass haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

McLeod takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

McLeod is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Jass with a body shot.

McLeod closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McLeod lands in his opponent's guard.
Jass is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
McLeod loads up on a big right hand but Jass slips the punch.

Jass blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Jass digs a right hand into McLeod's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on McLeod's gas tank.

Jass tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Jass blocks an elbow strike.
The referee is keeping an eye on McLeod - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

With the fighters up against the cage, McLeod throws an elbow but misses.
McLeod struggles to land a body shot inside as Jass controls his hands.
McLeod unloads a knee to the mid-section. Jass lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jass is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

McLeod is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Jass is defending well.
Hugh Jass has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jordan McLeod.

McLeod's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

I would just about give that final round to Jordan McLeod.
