PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Tom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Patrick Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tom Tom!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Tom.
Tom moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Tom throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Dean steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tom.
Tom throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Tom throws a hook but Dean blocks it.
Dean throws a jab but it's blocked by Tom.
Tom throws a good cross that connects.
Tom slips under a jab from Dean.
Dean ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Tom lands with a cross.
Tom misses with a jab, cross combination.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tom connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Dean jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tom misses with a looping left.
A big right from Dean misses.
Tom darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


Dean is rocked!
Tom digs a good hook to Dean's body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tom throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dean tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tom scores with a shot to the body.
Tom looks to land a right hand but Dean moved out of range.
Tom throws a shot to the body.
Dean blocks a low kick nicely.
Tom Tom seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dean uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tom.
Tom uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Dean has time to react.

Dean darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Tom keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Dean thows a huge punch but Tom dodges it nicely.
Dean with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Tom is defending against the submission attempts here by Dean.
Dean thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tom looks to score with a jab to the body but Dean is just out of range.
Tom scores with a punch to the head.
Dean is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Tom cracks Dean with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Dean slips a straight right by Tom.
Tom misses with a takedown attempt

and Dean counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Dean.
Dean is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Dean slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Tom dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Tom changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dean tries to avoid it but Tom manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dean to the ground. Dean escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tom lands a nice hook to Dean's body. Dean takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Tom's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Tom duly obliges.
Tom Tom seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tom swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tom has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tom throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Dean uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Tom.
Tom throws a lazy right hand but Dean sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Dean moves forwards but Tom connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Tom uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dean.
A slow jab from Tom misses its intended target.
A big right from Dean misses.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Dean checks a leg kick.
Tom connects with a right hand. Dean shakes it off.
Dean missing with a left hand there. Tom was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A shot to the liver by Tom. Beautiful body shot.

Dean throws out a loose jab but Tom uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dean walks into a jab.
Tom throws a big shot that misses.
Tom throws a sloppy head kick

and Dean counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Dean.
Dean slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dean postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dean slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Dean wants to control from the top but Tom keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dean drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tom dives on top into guard.

Dean lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Tom avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tom can't keep his opponent in guard - Dean advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Dean thows a huge punch but Tom dodges it nicely.
Dean not doing much here.

Dean has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Tom defend it? Dean steps over the head and cranks it - Tom is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Dean!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Patrick Dean!
