The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A bone on bone clash there as Alvares Pereira blocks the leg kick.
Alvares Pereira throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Groot sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Groot moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
The crowd cheers as Groot lands an impressive looking overhand right. Alvares Pereira doesn't seem phased though.

Alvares Pereira darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Alvares Pereira tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Alvares Pereira is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Groot doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Alvares Pereira.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvares Pereira content to control rather than advance.

Alvares Pereira wants to take a breather but Groot is having none of it.
Groot trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Alvares Pereira manages to pass to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alvares Pereira working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Groot turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Alvares Pereira off and cradles Groot's limp body as Alvares Pereira celebrates with his corner.
