PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Prime (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay Prime told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Patrick Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jay Prime!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prime gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dean connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Dean scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Some wild striking there from Prime.
Prime doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dean counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Dean throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Dean slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dean trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dean throwing strikes from guard but Prime blocks nicely.

Prime trying to control the position.

Prime looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Dean drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dean jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Prime escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dean gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dean engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Prime clinches with his opponent.

Prime pulls guard.

Prime working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Dean has passed into half guard!

Still in half guard, Dean seems content to control.

Dean not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Prime really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dean. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Prime is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Dean scores with a couple of nice shots.

Prime is defending against the submission attempts here by Dean.
Dean moves into full mount! Prime won't be happy about that!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Prime tries to lock up and control but Dean gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Dean's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Dean pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Prime.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Prime is defended easily by Dean.
The fight stays on the outside here - Prime looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dean is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Dean shoots in and bounces Prime off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prime can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dean controls the pace.

Dean postures up in Prime's guard and throws a big left but Prime blocks it.
Dean is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Prime wants to sweep but no luck.

Dean has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Dean throwing strikes from guard but Prime blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Prime closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dean circles away.
Patrick Dean has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Prime.
Prime shoots for a takedown but Dean saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Prime steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dean.
Jay Prime seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Prime is defended easily by Dean.

Dean closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Prime's guard.
Dean is stalling in the full guard.

Dean stands and throws Prime's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dean in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Dean has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Prime!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dean controlling the pace for now.
Dean lands a heavy elbow.
Prime is wriggling around trying to escape.
Dean content just to control the position here.
Dean seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Prime for as long as he can get away with.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Dean dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Dean avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Dean darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Prime is looking to improve his position.
Prime avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dean.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prime has a hand on Dean's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Dean takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Dean has isolated one of Prime's arms. Prime looking to fight him off but Dean twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
