The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz throws a right and a left that Villela avoids nicely.
Diaz looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Villela wants to clinch up but Diaz keeps it at a distance.

Diaz misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Villela.
Villela lands a left hand that snaps the head of Diaz backwards.
Diaz is trying to push Villela away but Villela has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Diaz misses with a hook to the ribs.

Villela breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Villela throws a head kick but Diaz moves out of range.
Villela works over Diaz's head and body with a nice combination.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Villela tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Villela lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Diaz backs up against the cage.
Villela scores with a spinning back kick!
Villela throws a head kick but Diaz moves out of range.
Villela connects with a body shot that sends Diaz's belly button to the back.
Diaz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Diaz fails to land with a series of punches.
