Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Maria Coffey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Toushikama !
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coffey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Toushikama counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Toushikama tries to pass the half guard into mount. Coffey knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Toushikama is taking a breather. Coffey says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Toushikama stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Toushikama closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Coffey quickly recovers to half guard.

Toushikama stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Coffey to get to his feet.

Toushikama closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Coffey's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Coffey can't keep his opponent in guard - Toushikama advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Toushikama in particular looking to stall.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Toushikama not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Toushikama connects with a nice short shot to Coffey's temple.
Coffey is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Toushikama in particular looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Toushikama has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Coffey is defended easily by Toushikama .

and Toushikama holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Coffey is trying to force a seperation but Toushikama has the dominant position.

Toushikama breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Coffey is trying hard to land a takedown here. Toushikama sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Toushikama throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Toushikama throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Toushikama breaks from the clinch.

Toushikama scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Toushikama throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Coffey counters with a three punch combo that has Toushikama backing up. Toushikama nods at Coffey to acknowledge the strikes.

Toushikama closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Coffey quickly recovers to half guard.
Coffey is looking to improve his position.
Akira Toushikama has got the better of the ground game so far.
Toushikama takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Toushikama 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Coffey missing with punches from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Coffey shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Toushikama sprawls well. Toushikama wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Coffey gets slowly back to his feet.
Coffey rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Toushikama moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Toushikama misses with a left hand
and Coffey counters with a series of strikes. Toushikama will be more careful next time no doubt.

Coffey feints and then cracks Toushikama 's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Toushikama down.

Toushikama shoots in and gets a takedown into Coffey's guard.

Coffey throws his legs up looking for a submission but Toushikama uses it to pass to side control.
Toushikama is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coffey gets back to half guard.

Toushikama stops Coffey from getting back to his feet.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Toushikama in particular looking to stall.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Toushikama prevents Coffey from standing back up.
Toushikama not doing much here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Toushikama thows a left - swing and a miss!

Toushikama moves into the clinch.

Coffey is fighting off a takedown attempt but Toushikama is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Coffey to the mat. Coffey regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Toushikama advances to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Toushikama passes the guard and advances to mount!

Akira Toushikama showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Coffey tries to keep at a distance but Toushikama has taken the fight into the clinch.

Toushikama tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Coffey avoids it.

A frustrated look appears on Coffey's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Coffey is looking to break free of the clinch but Toushikama has double underhooks.

Toushikama decides to pull guard.
Toushikama is pulling down on Coffey's head. It's preventing any offense from Coffey, at least for the moment.

More stalling from Toushikama .
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Toushikama .
Coffey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Toushikama uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Coffey throws a right and a left that both miss.
Maria Coffey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Toushikama manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Coffey on his heels. He'll look to pass Coffey's guard now, I'm sure.
Coffey can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Toushikama controls the pace.
Toushikama with more of the same as he continues to hold on.

Toushikama decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Coffey shoots in for a takedown but Toushikama shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Toushikama closes the distance and pushes Coffey back into the cage.

Coffey trying to control the position but instead, Toushikama has worked for underhooks and has pushed Coffey into the cage.
Coffey has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Coffey decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Toushikama , up you get!

Toushikama forces Coffey back against the cage and clinches.
Coffey tries to stall but Toushikama uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Coffey looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Toushikama will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Coffey up against the cage.
Coffey wants to get back to striking at distance but Toushikama won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Toushikama has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Coffey is trying to keep an underhook but Toushikama manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Toushikama postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Coffey to stand up.
Maria Coffey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Akira Toushikama is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Coffey avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

And that's the end of the fight!
Akira Toushikama comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Toushikama winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
