PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Corll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corll comes to the cage accompanied by South Texas Death Ride. Kent has chosen I'll be Back as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Corll!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 18 - 3, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Kent!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kent gets a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kent is thwarting Corll's attempts to control the position.
Corll wants to get back to full guard.
Corll is not content to let Kent control the position.
Corll tries to roll over but Kent keeps him under control.

Kent is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Corll wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kent is looking for a kimura but Corll is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kent to get the leverage.
Corll wants to control but Kent is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kent working over Corll with some ground and pound. Corll looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Kent looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kent stops Corll from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Corll tries to get to full guard but Kent has control of the leg.
Corll is trying to control but can't.
Corll on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Kent is keen to just control but Corll is a slippery customer.
Kent thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Corll's head.
Corll is not content to let Kent control the position.

Kent wants to work for an arm triangle but Corll is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Corll wants to get back to full guard.
Corll desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Corll pushes Kent off looking to stand but Kent dives back in and keeps control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kent content to control rather than advance.
Corll trying to control from the bottom.
Kent wants to get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kent is working for a kimura but Corll is defending it quite comfortably.
Corll tries to get to full guard but Kent has control of the leg.
Kent wants to control but Corll is keeping him busy.
Corll trying to control but Kent postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Corll tries to clinch but Kent moves out of range.
Kent gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Corll counters with a good, hard body kick but Kent shrugs it off.
Corll scores with a leg kick.
Corll misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kent.
Kent closes the distance and clinches up with Corll, looking for a takedown. Kent pushes Corll against the cage but Corll circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Corll dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A left lands for Corll.
Kent takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Corll throws a nice head kick!


It looks like Peter Kent has been cut.

Kent shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kent showed some decent athleticism there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Corll is looking for a sweep. Kent is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kent thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Corll's head.
Corll is controlling Kent's position as best he can from this difficult position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Corll wants to improve his position but Kent is controlling well.
Corll is staying active underneath Kent, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kent throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Kent is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Corll defends it well.
Corll is refusing to be controlled, as Kent sits in half guard.
Corll tries to get to full guard but Kent has control of the leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kent is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Corll won't allow Kent to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Kent dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Peter Kent's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Corll thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kent if he has to take too many more of those.
Kent avoids the body shot from Corll.
A solid leg kick lands there for Corll.
Kent has a takedown stuffed.
Corll tries to land a front kick but Kent steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Kent fails to land the takedown.
Kent looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Dean Corll has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Kent.
Kent shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Corll as he jumps to the side.
Corll scores with a jab to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Corll delivers a nice body kick.
Kent has a takedown stuffed.
Kent shoots and misses
and Corll counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Whack! Corll lands a heavy head kick that drops Kent. The ref tackles Corll to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Kent was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Dean Corll!
Dean Corll seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
