PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Logan Dunlap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Carlos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Zerstoren - by Rammstein. Roman Carlos is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Logan Dunlap!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Carlos!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Sergei Dronov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Dunlap.
Dunlap misses with a takedown attempt
and Carlos counters with a three punch combo that has Dunlap backing up. Dunlap nods at Carlos to acknowledge the strikes.
Carlos is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Carlos tries to keep at a distance but Dunlap has taken the fight into the clinch.

Dunlap breaks the clinch.

Carlos fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dunlap to the ground. Carlos is now in Dunlap's guard.

Carlos looking to pass the guard.
Dunlap might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Carlos passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Carlos wants to control but Dunlap is keeping him busy.
Dunlap is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Carlos cracks Dunlap with a big right hand but Dunlap just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Carlos is looking to take a break and control but Dunlap is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Carlos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Carlos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dunlap is looking for a sweep.

Carlos is looking to take a break and control but Dunlap is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dunlap misses with a series of wild punches.
Dunlap closes the distance and clinches up with Carlos, looking for a takedown. Dunlap pushes Carlos against the cage but Carlos circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Carlos gets a double leg takedown into Dunlap's guard.
Carlos wants to control from the top but Dunlap keeps moving.
Dunlap utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dunlap sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dunlap is trying to get back to full guard.

Carlos is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Carlos has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Dunlap won't allow Carlos to pass to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carlos looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Dunlap is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carlos pulls his head out easily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Dunlap misses with a double jab
and Carlos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Carlos with a hook.

Carlos fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dunlap sprawls well initially but Carlos persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Carlos slows the pace down in half guard.
Let's hope that Carlos has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Carlos is looking for a kimura but Dunlap is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carlos to get the leverage.
Carlos wants to control but Dunlap is keeping him busy.
Carlos works his way into side control.
Dunlap is trying to escape the position but Carlos is controlling the position.

Carlos is trying to get an arm triangle but Dunlap is defending well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dunlap is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roman Carlos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Dunlap throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dunlap closes the distance and clinches up with Carlos, looking for a takedown. Dunlap pushes Carlos against the cage but Carlos circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carlos throws a right hand that Dunlap ducks under and follows up with a left that Dunlap also avoids with ease.
Logan Dunlap is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Carlos scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Carlos throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Dunlap on the side of the head.

No luck for Dunlap with that takedown attempt.
Dunlap throws a sloppy head kick and Carlos moves out of range easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dunlap fails with the takedown
and Carlos counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Logan Dunlap. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carlos looks to land a right hand but Dunlap moved out of range.

No joy there for Carlos, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Carlos drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee asks Carlos politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Carlos prefers to stall for the moment though.
Dunlap knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carlos on the ground.
Dunlap tries to buck Carlos off but Carlos is having none of it.

Carlos goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Dunlap has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Carlos but great work by Dunlap.

Carlos moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Roman Carlos is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dunlap engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

I've got Carlos winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Roman Carlos was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
