PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Crone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Ronman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ronman is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by It's A Fight. The key to victory for Paul Crone has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paul Crone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Ronman!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ronman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ronman wants to stand up but Crone has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Crone pushes Ronman off looking to stand but Ronman dives back in and keeps control.

Ronman is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Crone has managed to free his arm - good work.
Ronman moves nicely into side control.

Ronman is trying to get an arm triangle but Crone is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ronman working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Crone trying to remain calm as Ronman controls from the top position.

Ronman thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ronman advances nicely into full mount.

Ronman looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Ronman content just to control the position here.
Crone throwing hammer fists to the chest of Ronman. What's that going to do exactly?

Ronman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Crone can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ronman working for a guillotine from mount but Crone is in no mood to give up.

Ronman with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Crone is looking to get to half guard.

Ronman is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Ronman misses with a takedown attempt - Crone sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ronman goes for a double leg but Crone avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Crone continues to drive forward.
Crone wants to break the clinch but can't.
Ronman prevents Crone from breaking the clinch.
Ronman goes for a takedown in the clinch but Crone prevents it.
Paul Crone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Ronman.

Crone gets underhooks to prevent Ronman's takedown attempt.
Ronman's coach down at Ultimate MMA Training Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Ronman's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Ronman gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Ronman trying to control the position from guard on top but Crone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ronman prevents Crone from getting back to his feet.
Ronman wants to get up but he can't break Crone's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Crone wants to get back to his feet but Ronman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ronman stands and throws Crone's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Ronman dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ronman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Crone circles away.
Crone displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ronman.
A left and a right from Crone both land. Nice combination.
Ronman misses with a takedown attempt - Crone sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Paul Crone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Ronman.
Ronman takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Crone lands with a straight right. Ronman didn't see that one coming.
Ronman takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Crone works the jab nicely.
Crone works over Ronman's head and body with a nice combination.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ronman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Crone tries to avoid it but Ronman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Crone to the ground. Crone escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A nice combination there by Crone.


Ronman is rocked!
Crone displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ronman.
Ronman is still on wobbly legs! Can Crone finish him?
Paul Crone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Crone lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Crone tries to bum rush Ronman with a series of wild strikes but Ronman uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ronman staying out of range there.
Ronman seems to have recovered his senses.
Paul Crone is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nice straight punches there by Crone. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Crone.
Crone connects with a single shot there.
Crone misses with a double jab
and Ronman counters with a slapping leg kick.
Ronman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Ronman shoots in but no luck this time.
Crone stuffs the takedown attempt from Ronman. Ronman gets slowly back to his feet.
Ronman is breathing heavily.
Ronman shoots in but Crone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Crone scores with the left hand. Ronman knows he should have avoided that one.

Crone misses with a double jab.

Ronman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Crone on his heels. He'll look to pass Crone's guard now, I'm sure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Crone wants to stand and escape but Ronman is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Crone is on top in guard.

Crone throws a strike but Ronman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Ronman stops Crone from standing up.
Crone is wriggling around but Ronman manages to pass to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ronman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Crone sees it coming and defends easily.
Ronman moves into full mount! Crone won't be happy about that!

Ronman has hold of Crone's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Crone manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Crone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ronman on the ground.

Ronman stands up from mount. Strange move.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Crone gets caught napping as Ronman dives in and scores a takedown. Crone manages to retain guard.
Ronman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ronman trying to control the position from guard on top but Crone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ronman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Crone is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Ronman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Crone sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Crone clobbers Ronman with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Ronman takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Crone defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ronman.
Ronman shoots in and drives through. Crone sprawls well.
Paul Crone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Ronman.

Crone defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ronman.
Crone is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crone throws a good cross that connects.
Ronman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Oooooh!!! Crone has knocked Ronman down with a huge combo! Crone steps away and waves a wobbly Ronman back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


It looks like Bob Ronman has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ronman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Crone to the mat! Crone manages to get full guard.
Ronman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Ronman prevents Crone from getting back to his feet.
Ronman passes into half guard.
Ronman wants to get back to his feet.

Ronman is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ronman seems to be looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ronman prevents Crone from standing back up.
Ronman tries to pass to full mount but Crone defends it.

Ronman is working for a submission of some sort.
Crone wants to control but Ronman is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Ronman is looking for a kimura here.

Ronman stands up and beckons Crone to join him on the feet.
Ronman shoots in looking for a takedown. Crone tries to sprawl out of it but Ronman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Crone manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ronman fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nice takedown defense from Crone. No joy for Ronman on that attempt.
Danga de danga de dang - Crone scores with a four punch combination!
Ronman shoots in for a takedown but Crone shows good takedown defense.
Crone lands with a shot to the body.
Ronman fails with a takedown attempt.
Crone scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Ronman on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Ronman walks into a stiff left hand from Crone.
Ronman shoots in for a takedown but Crone shows good takedown defense.
Crone connects with a looping right hand.
Ronman fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Crone lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Crone showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Crone has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
