Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Spike Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Madhead Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gomes might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Johnny Cash - Hurt. Spike Gomes could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Madhead Power's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes with a lazy takedown attempt
and Power counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gomes thinking.
Gomes doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Power connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Power misses with a wild combination.
Gomes tries for a takedown but Power circles away easily
and Power counters with a series of strikes. Gomes will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Spike Gomes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Power throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Power works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Power looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Power has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Gomes is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gomes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Power swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gomes trying to control the position from guard on top but Power is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gomes is really struggling to control Power but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Power looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gomes is one step ahead there.

Power uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Gomes closes the distance and clinches up with Power, looking for a takedown. Gomes pushes Power against the cage but Power circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Power connects with a nice looking jab.
Gomes looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

and Power counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
A punch combination from Power misses.
Good exchange - Power coming out on top.
No joy there for Power, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gomes shoots in for a takedown but Power shows good takedown defense.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gomes takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Gomes drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gomes tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Power tries to buck Gomes off but Gomes is having none of it.

Gomes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Power, who protects the arm well.
Gomes wants to stand but Power has his arm trapped.

Power tries to bench press Gomes off him but Gomes keeps the position.
Power is not content to let Gomes control the position.
Gomes tries to stand but Power is controlling his head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Power. No joy for Gomes on that attempt.
Power getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Power scores with a hook to the body. Gomes takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Power will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Power pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Power throws a right and a left that Gomes avoids nicely.
Power throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gomes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Power just misses with a punch to the body.
Gomes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Power tries to avoid it but Gomes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Power to the ground. Power escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Power connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Gomes is rocked!
Power ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Gomes's jaw. Gomes's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Power does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.
