PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Flynn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Flynn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh White!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Steve Montenegro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White throws a left and a right that both miss
and Flynn counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Josh White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Flynn misses with a takedown attempt
and White makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Flynn gets caught flat footed, as White shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
White slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
White trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White looking to sit in guard and control but Flynn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
White manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
White is trying to control here but Flynn has managed to regain half guard.

White is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flynn works his way to full guard. Good work.
White controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
White preventing the sweep.
White throwing strikes but missing.
White stays in close to Flynn's body and controls the position.
White really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Flynn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Flynn has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but White has passed into side control.
Flynn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
White tries to advance to mount but can't.

White stands up and we're back to a striking position.

White drives through with a takedown into guard.

White trying to control the position from guard on top but Flynn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

White decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Flynn, up you get!

White fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Flynn to the ground. White is now in Flynn's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
White prevents Flynn from getting back to his feet.
White is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
White postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Flynn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Josh White wasn't active enough on the ground.
White misses with a body kick.

White closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Flynn is looking to work his way out of this bad position but White is controlling him well.
Flynn is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh White dominated that round.

White shoots in and bounces Flynn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Flynn has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes White off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
White swings and misses with a shot to the body
letting Flynn counter with a right hand.

White closes the distance and clinches.
White pressing his opponent against the cage.
White scores with a shoulder strike.
Flynn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. White smiles and moves away.

White changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Flynn looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Flynn defending against the ground and pound.
White trying to control the position but Flynn is working away.
White in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The strikes coming from White are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
White moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
White scores with a couple of short elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
White staying calm.
White wants to stand but Flynn has his arm trapped.
White with the ground and pound but Flynn regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

White stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Flynn to get to his feet.

White throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Flynn was covering up waiting for the punch and White finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Josh White has got the better of the ground game so far.
White has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Flynn is proving hard to escape from.

Flynn looking for a guillotine here but White defends easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Flynn wants to sweep here but White controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh White showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



White looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Flynn!
Flynn tries to improve position but can't.

White stands up.

White bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
White taking a break here but Flynn is having none of it and regains half guard.
White content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

White throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
White tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Flynn.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. White connects with a nice short shot to Flynn's temple.
Flynn is refusing to be controlled, as White sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
White is looking to stall here but Flynn recovers full guard.
Flynn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
White stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Flynn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

White got a little sloppy there for a moment and Flynn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, White has managed to get both his arms back between Flynn's legs - danger averted.

White trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Josh White was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Flynn doesn't succeed with the takedown

and White counters with a takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Flynn can't do much from the bottom here.
White remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
White sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Flynn is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
White cracks Flynn with a big elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

White stands up and we're back to a striking position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Josh White comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well White has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
